A Good Weekend

Yesterday we changed our church schedule around a little bit. Normally we go to the second service that starts at 10:00 and take Calleigh to cradle roll at 11:15 when it's over. However, Pastor Morris whom we love, is no longer preaching the second service. He's now only preaching the first and third and I guess, who can blame him even if it does inconvenience us a bit. So went to cradle roll as usual at 11:15 and then went to third service afterwards. Because we were afraid we wouldn't get seats (as the service starts at 11:30), Duncan left before cradle roll was over to save us some. Elaine came with us (Ron had some things he had to do at home to prepare for a trip to Boston. Lucky dog) so that was a lovely treat. She kept me company in cradle roll when Duncan left. Cradle roll is becoming a bit of a challenge since Cal is constantly on the move. She does not just sit and watch the teacher. She's crawling all over the floor going from one thing to the next. At one point she spotted a little boy playing with two sticks across the room and she took off to try to take them out of his hands. He was nice enough to give them to her. Naturally all of this moving around means that she will not sit through a whole church service. Normally I take her into the "training chapel" (remember when it used to be called a "mother's room?") but Duncan was kind enough to take her out this time. So Elaine and I were left to enjoy the sermon which was the third part of a series on Joseph - - my favorite Bible character. After church and lunch, Cal and I both enjoyed a 2-hour nap. Yippee!!

Today we woke up to significantly cooler weather. Yesterday it hit 89 and today it hit 68 at midday. It's supposed to be cool like this the rest of the week which I'm very thankful for. I don't dare complain about weather in the upper 60's to those less fortunate. As far as play activities today, the thing that Calleigh really got into was climbing onto things. For the first time, she climbed into the orange basket that her toys go into. She was pretty excited about that. We also have a little rocking chair that Ron gave us (a family heirloom of theirs). Calleigh has played with it a little, mostly just standing next to it and watching it go back and forth. Today she decided she wanted to get into the chair. So that's what she did. I steadied it for her while she climbed in and then she stood up on it and sat this way and that. After I put her down for a nap which she didn't take, I brought her downstairs and sat her on the floor. I looked a way for what most have been 10 seconds tops and the next thing I know I see her lying on the floor with the rocking chair on top of her. Sure enough, the first thing she did was try to climb back into the chair but I wasn't there to steady it for her. Obviously I'm really going to need to keep my eye on her around that chair or I'll just need to move it out of here.

We had some friends visit this afternoon. I have a co-worker from FH named Shasha (she's Chinese) that had a baby girl, Chelsea, on May 25. She also has a boy, JJ, who is 15 months older. Shasha and her husband, James, brought the kids over this afternoon to visit Calleigh who hadn't met them before. Poor JJ - - Dewey scared him right to death when he got here and he would barely sit down the entire visit even though I locked the dogs up in the bedroom. I'm glad Calleigh won't be scared of dogs! Chelsea was also bashful most of the time. Cal had no problems. She was yakking away to them and would try and go up to Chelsea and touch her face and hair. After they left I wondered aloud to Duncan if Calleigh would have been shy like Chelsea if we had gone to their house instead. We really don't think so. She seems very comfortable wherever she is. We saw that again tonight when we went to the Odiyar's for our Bible study. She was as friendly as ever with everyone there.

Right now I'm watching the Red Sox and Yankees game. All I can say is that I hope Shawn and Alison (who are at the game) don't have to be anywhere early tomorrow morning. It's 11:11 and the game is only in the top of the 7th. It started at 8:00. Their games always go long. Now the old me would definitely not miss any part of this game since it's pretty close at 7-4. However, the new me is thinking about how it's nice to go to sleep since I have to get up at 7:00. Granted, the old me would also be getting up at 7:00 tomorrow for work. But I just don't if I have it in me to stay up. Of course, I say that now but we'll have to see if I actually turn it off.

So . . . did you stay up?

I got up at seven, but Alison had to get up at 4:45!!! I don't know what time she rolled into her driveway, but I rolled into mine at about 1:45. And it wasn't even that good a game. Lousy, actually. Dice-K was terrible. I'm chalking it up to the 37 degree temperature.

I did stay up afterall! I watched it in bed with it on mute so Duncan could read/sleep in peace. I actually thought you would be happy with the game since the Sox had some good offense and provided some entertainment. That is too bad about Dice-K though. I hope you weren't too cold!
