Calleigh's First Balloon

This afternoon I had to run to Publix to get a few things ($93 later...). On the way there, I dropped my car off at Walmart to get the oil changed. Anyway, as we walked through the store, Calleigh was eyeing and pointing at all the balloons they have hanging on some of the aisles. She was intrigued. When we were checking out, I brought a few of them down to her level so that she could touch them. Very exciting! The bagger then told us we could have one of them - - I quickly figured out why - - they are just generic balloons that say "Publix" on them so I'm sure they love to get free advertising! But we were happy to take one. Calleigh has seen balloons before but has never had her own personal one. Well, that balloon went with her everywhere during the next 45 minutes until nap time between the way home and crawling around the house. A few times it floated up to the ceiling and she would sit there staring at it until we would bring it down. I finally had to put her down for her nap and I wondered if she would remember it when she got up. Indeed, she noticed it up in the corner of the ceiling a few moments after getting up. So the balloon then went with us to our Bible study. Alas, the balloon has just about died as I look at it now. It is floating around on the floor and it's about half the original size. Who knows what it will look like in the morning. The other funny thing was that Cal kept leaning over the balloon and bouncing her mouth off it. We were so afraid it was going to pop but thankfully, it seems to be a sturdy balloon.

We also had some fun this morning with bubbles. I had gotten a little bottle of bubbles at Braelyn's birthday party a few weeks ago and I finally remembered about them. I cascaded her with little bubbles and she enjoyed trying to catch them. I don't think they were as exciting as the balloon since they kept disappearing!

Another exciting thing was that Calleigh stood up without support for a good four to five seconds. Just so you know, she has shown very little interest in walking or standing up without support so this was a big deal. Duncan was trying to hand her the balloon so he put her in a standing position and she just stood there. I saw about the last two seconds of it and it was so neat! Maybe this will be the beginning of something more.

In other news, Kelly arrived back from Tampa this afternoon so we are enjoying her company until she leaves early Tuesday morning....Ron and Elaine got back last night so they stopped over for a visit this afternoon. It's really nice to have them back and we had a great time listening to their stories from being in Boston and in Pennsylvania with Calleigh's cousins.
