Today was the Red Sox home opener. I taped the ring ceremony and game and started watching it after Calleigh went down for her afternoon nap. As far as the ceremony went, I thought the music was very nice especially the theme from Indiana Jones. However, I thought it was very strange that they didn't announce each person's name as they received their rings. The music just played as each one went up. At first I thought the PA system was broken but apparently that's how they intended it to be. Very strange. But the real excitement came when it was time for the first pitch and Bill Buckner stepped out from underneath the big World Series banner in left field. I had heard some rumblings about him making an appearance but I really didn't think it would happen. From everything I've read, it seems he has had no interest in ever showing up at Fenway. Apparently he had a change of heart. I could see how emotional he was as he made the long walk to the mound. It reminded me of how emotional I was back in October 1986. I remember sitting in the Copsey's house watching that game like it was yesterday. I may have only been 10 but it's hard to forget it. Somehow the memory is no longer painful now that we have two championships under our belts since then. I'm glad that the fans were able to forgive him and give him a giant round of applause even though it's only because of the championships. No doubt if he was throwing out the first pitch and it was now 89 years since a World Series victory, he would be heavily booed. It just goes to show that winning takes care of everything else. Incidentally, I had to watch the game in regular definition rather than HD. They gave us free HD for the first week. If we want to have it for the rest of the year, I have to pony up another $50 (which is in addition to the $170 I already have to pay for the baseball package). I'll have to think about it.
We didn't attend our breastfeeding luncheon today because my good friend, Lauren, is out of town.
Instead we went to Walmart for groceries and we also got two bird feeders. We do have quite a few birds around here and I'm sure Calleigh would love to look at them. I hung them up this afternoon but I've yet to see any birds feeding even though there were birds in the tree earlier today. So how long does it take for the birds to start eating from it? I hope I'm not breaking any homeowner association rules by having a bird feeder. I guess I'll have to get the bylaws out. Our new gates arrived last night at 10 pm.
Who knew that UPS delivered that late? Duncan took one out of the package and Calleigh had a grand time crawling all over it today. Little does she know that she will not like that gate once it's up and blocking her from the kitchen. Duncan tried to install it tonight but there is metal or something in the wall and the screws wouldn't go in so we're going to get some drill bits to fix it.
By the way, in case you are wondering, saying "baby" was not a one time event for Calleigh. She is saying it all the time now. I asked her this afternoon where her baby was and she crawled right over to it. Well, the pump is off and that means time for bed!
