Calleigh in Action

Calleigh has been doing really great with her walking. She'll walk clear across the room now if you stand her up. Today, she's even taken the initiative herself a couple of times. She'll pull herself up on something and then walk a few steps to her lion, for example. I took some video late this afternoon and I have to say, it doesn't do her justice. I think by the end of the day she was feeling fatigued and didn't walk nearly as far as she was earlier in the day. I'm going to take some more video tomorrow so you can get a better look at it.

Yesterday afternoon, Shannon and I took Calleigh to TCBY. TCBY is one of Shannon's very favorite haunts since they have 96% fat-free frozen yogurt. So it's almost guilt free eating. I got a vanilla/chocolate swirl without even thinking - - a baby would probably prefer something fruity. But anyway, this was Calleigh's very first taste of something resembling ice cream. And she did like it. No surprise there! Shannon ended up getting strawberry and gave some of hers to Calleigh too but I really think Cal preferred the vanilla/chocolate.

Calleigh had a little bit of a tough time again last night. At around 1 am, she started crying off and on in her crib although she was still lying down. I let her go for a little bit because most of the time when she does this, she'll just go back to sleep without any intervention. But with Shannon close by, I hated for her to have to listen to the crying. So I went in and rubbed her back for a little bit and then laid down on the floor and held her hand through the crib bar. Thankfully she went back to sleep in about 20 minutes and that was the end of that.

For lunch today, Shannon and I met Duncan for Thai food at "Orlando's Best Thai Restaurant" in Duncan's humble opinion. Since the last Thai I had (the take out order a couple of weeks ago) was so bad, I was anxious to have some good stuff. Shannon and I shared the Pad Thai which works out well for her because she gets all the tofu (Yuk!). And it was quite delicious I must say. I brought Calleigh her own collage of food since I wasn't sure how she would handle the food there.

After that, we ran a few errands. We went to Walmart where I finally picked up the pictures I had taken a month ago. I think they are quite cute although I do believe that the picture quality is not quite as good as JC Penney. However, the peaceful and quick experience we had at Walmart compared to JC Penney makes up for it. Shannon got a video out of Red Box while we were there. Ever heard of it? It's a box that holds movies. You just put in your credit card and a movie will pop out for the low price of $1/night. Not a bad deal! Alison Edwards is addicted to them. It even has all the new releases. Anyway, Shannon wanted a movie for tomorrow night because she is going to babysit so that Duncan and I can go to the Cheesecake Factory. A couple of month ago Shannon and Megan gave us a gift certificate for there and we haven't used it yet. So her being here works out just ducky. And no, we won't be taking advantage of her and go out all the time!

I have a few items that I need to add/clarify from postings earlier in the week. The first is that I should point out that Megan Rich, who is moving here with Shannon and David, is actually also a cousin of mine. A third cousin to be exact. Her mother and my mother are first cousins. She went to nursing school at AUC with Shannon and they lived in an apartment together in Leominster. She got a job in the OR at Florida Hospital Altamonte. I'm sure you'll hear much more about her when she moves down here.

The other thing is that I forgot to mention that we went to the hospital on Monday to have lunch with Aunt Wanda. When I say we, I am referring to Aunt Toni, Alison, Shannon, Calleigh and I (is "I" correct here or should it be "me"? I'm having a brain freeze). Part of the purpose was to, of course, see Aunt Wanda. The other purpose was for Aunt Wanda to introduce Shannon to a gentleman who works at the College that Aunt Wanda has been eyeing for Shannon. Shannon did not know this was going to happen. Sadly, I did not get to witness the exchange since I was elsewhere with Calleigh at the time. But the other thing that was interesting about the lunch was that I tried giving Calleigh a spoonful of my lentil soup which she had not tasted before. I put the spoon in her mouth and she made this horrible face like it was the worst thing she had ever tasted and immediately spit it out. That was the first time I have ever seen her make a face like that. And how disheartening! Lentil soup is one of my very favorite foods. In fact, I'm planning to make it tomorrow night so I think I'll give it another shot! Why not?

Well, that's all the news for now. I'm thinking about heading up to bed but I may wait for Shannon to get home. She went with Charlie Cutler to someone's house for dinner tonight. I'm not sure what time she'll return. You know, it's hard for a "parent" to go to bed until all the "children" are safely home and tucked into bed! Daddy Duncan told her that curfew was at 10 but she's obviously running late =)

Happy Sabbath! I have read the latest news of what is happening in your home with darling Calleigh. She is a WONDER BABY in my books and my book counts! If only I had had a girl in my bearing years. Why, I have often wondered? Guess, I relate to male gender better so God said. Well, by the time I next see Calleigh she will be running around and not walking. I was up to Orlando yesterday (Orlando) and spent most of the afternoon in an Attorney's office with my brother and 2 sisters plus 2 other gentlemen. The attorney kept me last to interview me. I wonder why????? He will not have Mary as a character witness which she is very happy for. I think he was shocked with what I said but I was truthful which he wanted and I told him if he wanted the truth, I was one that shot from the hip. I wonder where I got that from?? Needless, to say I am a witness for Dick and will be used when they put her on the stand. What a mess this all is. Uncle Dick is very discouraged but I closed my statement to the Attorney with this statement!! WE HAVE AN AWESOME GOD AND THE TRUTH WILL SET DICK FREE. I asked him if he believed in prayer and his remark was, "yes, I do." I told him we needed his prayers for Dick and prayers for his ability to show the Jury that Dick was innocent. Please, I beg you who read this blog to pray, pray for Dick. It all starts Monday morning. Who knows how long it will go - 2 days maybe 5 days and then the jury decides. We, as his siblings are sick at heart and pray that God will intervene with the Judge and the jury. I did not sleep at all last night so I did not go to church. I awoke at 10:30 am. So much for my rambling.

It appears Calleigh is doing just fine and all is well at the your house. More and more are moving to Florida. What will it take for Billie boy to see the light????? Ha. Love to all and keep the blogs coming. I look forward to them each day. Love, Aunt Shirley

The proper grammar there would have been "myself." Ha, ha. No . . . just kidding.

I'm pretty sure it should have been "me," as the indirect object of the sentence.

Perky - - I think you're going to have to take that up with Shannon herself. I don't think she likes the fact that I even mentioned a tidbit about meeting this guy. I may be banned from mentioning her!
