30 Weeks to Go!

I have some great news. I'm pregnant again! Most importantly, I know that I REALLY am pregnant. As you know, I went through quite an ordeal in June when it turned out that only a sack had formed but there was no baby in it which is termed a blighted ovum miscarriage. Fortunately, I was able to get an early ultrasound this time - - at 7.5 weeks - - and it was confirmed that there's a little munchkin in there. I was on pins and needles leading up to that. Of course, it's possible that a miscarriage could still occur but a blighted ovum is the most common form and at least we've avoided that. So right now I'm at 9 1/2 weeks. My due date is May 25. Yes, eight days after Calleigh's birthday on May 17. And the thing is, the standard procedure is that they do the c-section (unfortunately I have to have one again since this is how FH does it if you've already had a section)one week before the due date which brings us to May 18. We have a little time to figure out exactly what day would be best as exactly the 18th isn't set in stone.

Just as exciting is the news that my brother, Shawn, and his wife, Camille, are also expecting a baby - - on May 17 of all days!! They surprised ALL of us with this news. I still can't really believe it's true actually. But I'm so excited. Calleigh already has three cousins on Duncan's side of the family but this will be the first on my side. I know Duncan and I can hardly wait to extend our vast wisdom on child rearing to someone else!

Despite all of this exciting news, life is going on pretty much normally. On Wednesday, Calleigh and I went to have lunch with Duncan at his new office. He's been in his new job for over six months and has finally just moved into an actual office. It's quite impressive in size - - if you've been in our living room/dining room, it's about 75% of that. He even has a conference table in it and a huge window that overlooks I-4. Here's a video of Calleigh having a good time in the office. Yes, I do believe this was taken after she ate - - probably not the wisest choice!

Before we went there, we stopped at the ABC. I had to get some chicken strips that I can no longer find at Publix or Walmart for whatever reason. Hopefully that's only temporary. But I also spent some time looking through books, toys, etc. My mission was to find some items that I could try to entertain Calleigh with during church. I would love to be able to stay in the sanctuary for the sermon rather than always having to go to the mother's room. So I got a coloring book, a cell phone looking book, and some very nice flashcards that have Bible stories on them as you learn numbers. We'll see if this does the trick. My plan is to save these toys ONLY for church so she doesn't get sick of them. Incidentally, there are so many other things I could have gotten but practically everything is for kids age 3+. The question is, do I really think Calleigh would swallow a little felt? I guess you never know.

Yesterday was a momentous day due to the mere fact that I wore pants during the day for the first time since early spring. The temp was in the mid 70's and it was overcast. Calleigh and I decided to head to the mall to play on the playground there. As we were walking by the Build a Bear Workshop, Calleigh was lured in by the sight of a teddy bear sitting in a little stroller. She pushed it around the store for a minute and then made a beeline for the exit. Fortunately I was able to stop the shoplifting.

On the way back home, we stopped at a new thrift store (sidebar: it's actually a thrift store run by a lady named Sadie Holmes whom Extreme Makeover built a house for a few years ago. Her big house is on the road behind the thrift store) to look around. Lo and behold, there was a little wooden cradle for sale. I've been wanting to get one for Calleigh and there it was. So for $6.99, out the door we went with our new cradle. Now all of the stuffed animals have a new home and most importantly, baby has a place to sleep. Note the black monkey in the cradle. This monkey is now getting top billing along with baby. He comes every where with us too. Oh, and last night Calleigh decided that monkey would also like to breastfeed so I had to pretend to nurse him since she moved him into that position. Mercy. But at least she's willing to share.

You know how when you read little kids books enough times they eventually can recite it back to you even though they can't read? Well, today I had a little bit of that happen with Calleigh for the first time. I was reading her a book called "I Love You Through and Through" (great book for all you future parents!). On one page it says "I love you running and walking" and then you turn the page and it says "silent and talking." So as I turn to this second page, Calleigh took one look at it and piped up "silent and talking" before I even said a word. I was astounded. I haven't even read this particular book to her in probably two weeks (okay, that sounds bad but we have a LOT of books). Of course, for the rest of the day, Calleigh kept randomly saying "silent and talking." Obviously the silent part doesn't happen all that often!

One other cute thing. A few days ago Calleigh was nursing (see how many things happen when you have your child on your lap nursing??) and she let out a little noise as she passed some gas. She started to laugh and said "Mommy tootie!" I quickly corrected her and said "No, Calleigh tootie." She's only 17-months old and she's already smart enough to blame someone else!

Have a Happy Sabbath!

Congrats, Corey! You are about to embark on two children. Totally different, but totally fun. Especially when they start to interact with each other! I'll be anxious to hear all the details as your pregnancy progresses!

Thanks for the congrats everyone! Yes, Mom, I'll try to get the picture on flickr today.

Aunt Sherrie - - glad to know David has his fan club. From what I hear, though you may be the president, you definitely aren't the only member. I'll leave it at that.

Corey,
I have to say I think the no nausea means a boy. Even though I thought Rad was going to be a girl it all turned out pretty nice for us! If you have a girl, trust me after a few years your second little girl will not want to wear the same outfit again!
Also, I had a little black suitcase like bag for Kelly that contained beautiful felts from the ABC that I ever so carefully cut out. Kelly played with those felts for years and years in church. The material on the pews was such that they would stick without a felt board. They had beautiful bright colored fruits, people of all different nationalities, etc. etc. She really loved them--and I kept them just for Sabbath.
