When the family was in town for the wedding, we switched up the sleeping arrangements a little bit. Camille and Camden took Calleigh's room, Calleigh moved to Aubree's room with my parents (she doesn't mind the snoring and Aubree seemed to the one time we tried it), and Aubree bunked in with Duncan and me. One of those nights I had an epiphany. It's actually a lot easier with Calleigh in Aubree's room. Now that she's potty trained, once she gets into her crib each night, there's usually at least one or two potty breaks. Since Aubree's sleeping in her room, we traipse Calleigh all the way down to our bathroom rather than her going into Aubree's/the extra bathroom so she doesn't wake Aubree up. In addition, Calleigh always likes to have her door wide open so that she can see to play/read in her crib and with her in Aubree's room, we could just keep the bathroom light on for her and thus be able to close her door more and shut the hall light off. There are a number of other reasons, including the fact that Aubree's room is bigger, for the switch so I thought it was a good idea. I had contemplated switching it at the very beginning but it was really nice having a futon in Aubree's room since I spent many nights in there early on. So, all this being said, the big switch took place yesterday. There wasn't that much involved in it really. The main thing was obviously moving all the clothes. This gave me an opportunity to go through all of it and clean out stuff they don't wear, etc. So not only did I get the rooms changed but I ended up with cleaned out closets and three bags of stuff for the Salvation Army. My tax return will be happy with that. Duncan is in charge of moving the letters for the names and that's a little more of an operation (too bad they don't have the same amount of letters) but hopefully we'll have that done by this weekend.
The big test, obviously, was whether the girls would be happy with their new rooms. I figured it would be no big deal. Calleigh had been perfectly happy in there while everyone was her and Aubree had napped in Calleigh's crib a couple of times with no problems. Well....I figured wrong. Calleigh was fine but when I put Aubree in her new crib last night, she started screaming like she was dying. She was just wailing and wailing. I thought something else must be wrong with her so I picked her up but as soon as I did that, she was fine. After this went on for a bit, Duncan finally planted himself on the bean bag and sat there while she fell asleep. She woke up once during the night but thankfully went quickly back to sleep. This morning she woke up, stood up, and started crying. Very not like her. Next up was the morning nap. Yup, back to the crying like her world was ending. I very rarely see her like that so it's admittedly disturbing. I went in about every five minutes to calm her down but after half hour, I just got her up and decided to skip the nap.
This afternoon I had a meeting at work and Elaine came over to baby-sit. Naptime would be involved so to save Elaine from listening to crying all afternoon, I switched them back to their old rooms. She said Aubree was still a little weepy but after a few back rubs, she went right to sleep. That brings us to bed time tonight. I nursed her and put her in her new crib and sure enough, she immediately starts crying. I sighed to myself and thought, "Boy, this move better be worth it." I stood next to the crib and talked soothingly to her and then after about two minutes, she turned on her side, stuck out her arm so it was hanging out of the crib, closed her big blue eyes, and fell asleep. Thank you Jesus! Hopefully that's the end of it.
Yesterday we went to a bowling birthday party for a little boy, Blake, from our Sabbath School. Calleigh has never bowled before so we were looking forward to a new experience. All I can say is why don't they have candlepin bowling in places other than New England and Canada?? I just don't get it. The lightest ball they have is six pounds and that's the size I use when I do the big ball bowling! And here's my three year old having to heave it down the lane. Nonetheless, we did have an enjoyable time. Duncan helped her out and then they also have a little ramp that you could put the ball on and roll it off there - - makes it a lot easier to be sure. I think Calleigh liked the bowling but it's not like she was obsessed with it or anything. I think she was just as happy eating grapes, cupcakes (or should I say, frosting off cupcakes), and clowning around with Braelyn. Jennifer, Blake's mother, made bowling shirts for all the kids with their last names on them so that was really cute. I have no idea why I didn't take a close up picture of it. That would have made too much sense.
Waiting for her turn.
Very first bowl
Frankly, I didn't even think the ball would make it to the pins. It was so sloooowwww.
First you need to figure out how to walk Aubree.
I'm sure you can guess that this was AFTER they had the cupcakes.
In other exciting news, we have purchased our plane tickets to fly to Nova Scotia. And by that, I mean flying to Boston and driving to Nova Scotia. We had such mixed feelings on it because it's more money, obviously, to fly and then we have to kennel the dogs some of the time but on the other hand, you gain two days of vacation and you save 24-hours each way of being couped up essentially in a tin can, trying to keep your eyes open.
One final note...I think the wedding has had an impact on Calleigh. She never mentioned it during the wedding but I think she must have really taken note of the tiara that Yully wore. For the past few days Calleigh has either put a reindeer antler headband (from Christmas) or one of her elastic headbands on her head and taken to running up and down the hall, yelling at the top of her lungs, "I'm married, I'm married." Over and over and over again.
