Potty Success

I don't want to be premature here but it looks like Calleigh has been successfully potty trained.  I also hate to say it but it was remarkably easy.  She has had zero accidents.  I think the key was that she was ready and nothing has been forced upon her.  Admittedly, it's been tedious because we go through stretches where she needs to go every few minutes (hmm, those times seem to be just after she's gotten into bed) but other than that, it's been pretty stress free.  It's true that I put her in a pull-up when we had to make an airport run yesterday but since then, she's been in underwear the whole time other than when she's in bed.  That included a 1.5 hour trip to Thriftko and Walmart yesterday without any problems.  Granted, she refused to go when we were at Walmart because I didn't have the special toilet seat but she held it until we got home so that was great.

So now we just need to figure out how to bring the candy reward to an end.  I'm certain she would still be going without the candy reward because she knows she's not getting a treat in the evenings after she's brushed her teeth and she still goes.  This evening I told her that this was the last day of the M&M's/Jelly Bean treats and that I was implementing a sticker system starting tomorrow.  I told her she would get a sticker every time she goes and then when she gets 25 stickers, she could go to Walmart and pick something out that she wants...like maybe a Barbie.  She made a face at me and said "I have plenty of stuff here and I don't want more stuff to make it messy."  That's verbatim because I wrote it down when she said it.  I think what she really meant was "I just want to keep having candy."  We'll see how it goes tomorrow!

Over the weekend, Aubree mastered the steps.  She hadn't even gone up one but then suddenly on Sabbath she just climbed all the way up to the top in the blink of an eye.  So that was exciting but that night definitely was not.  As I've mentioned numerous times, Aubree is a really good sleeper.  In fact, most evenings I don't even turn the monitor on after I put her to bed until I go to bed myself because I know we'll never hear from her.  But for some bizarre reason, Saturday night was torturous.  She kept waking up and crying and crying.  I nursed her, I held her, and she would be fine but as soon as she went back in her crib, she'd start up again.  She would go back to sleep for a little bit and then back to the crying.  Finally around 1 am, I brought her into bed with us and she quieted down for a bit but then she started crawling around.  Duncan said he was startled when this little face started peering over his shoulder.  I brought her back to her crib and laid down on the floor next to the crib and finally, at 1:47, I was able to escape and that was the end of it.  I have no idea what prompted all that but it's been business as usual since then.  Teething maybe?

Aubree's episode wouldn't have been quite so bad if we hadn't had almost the same thing with Calleigh the evening before.  She woke up crying and freaking out and didn't want to be in her crib.  I was really tired so I brought her into our bed but I absolutely could not sleep although she clearly did because all I could hear was her grinding her teeth in her sleep (I'll have to mention that to the dentist next week).  At around 3, I took her back to her crib where she refused to say so I brought her mattress into our room.  Not much sleep that night either.  So much for a relaxing holiday weekend!

Sunday we headed to Cocoa Beach.  It's the first time since we've been to the beach down here since August.  It really is quite a task.  The sand is enough to drive you crazy.  Within about two minutes of us being there, Aubree had wiped sand into her eyes and was crying.  But if you can get past the sand, the beach is a lot of fun.  Calleigh had a fantastic time.  She loved sitting on Duncan's shoulders and letting the waves hit them.  Several of them landed in her face but it didn't deter her at all.  Aubree spent most of her time sitting in the shallow section with me and I got great exercise just picking her up and putting her back every time she started crawling out to sea.  It didn't take long for Calleigh to spot a little girl playing in the sand by herself and she told Duncan "I want to go play with that girl."  So that she did and Calleigh and Olivia played together the whole rest of the time.  We ate lunch in the van on the way back which thankfully kept them awake because Mommy was desperate for a nap after the last two nights.

Looking at a crab.  You can see it in the bottom middle of the picture.  She's not looking any where near the right place.

Just like the tide, she kept going in and out.

Our Memorial Day was pretty low key.  Duncan went on a 45 mile bike ride with his parents in the morning while we took Aunt Shirley and Irma to the airport.  They were meeting other family in Newark and then continuing on to Ireland.  After naptime, we went to Thriftko which always has a 50% of sale on holidays.  Sadly, that has become a much bigger operation since it moved from the plaza right here next to our house to about 3 miles down the road.  The end of an era!

This evening the four of us took a nice stroll around the neighborhood.  We noticed a boy riding around on his scooter and Calleigh was suitably impressed.  She couldn't take her eyes off him.  We noticed that he kept riding around where we were and finally when we stopped to look at the fountain, he came over and started talking to us.  He was seven and his name was Brady.  Duncan found a little frog which Brady picked up and Calleigh was enthralled with it.  He tried to get her to hold it but when he put it in her hand, she quickly dropped it.  We talked to him for awhile and then as we started walking away, Calleigh goes up to him and says "I really like you!"  It was too cute.  He finally rode off on the scooter as Calleigh shouted "Bye Brady" to which he replied over his shoulder, "See you tomorrow."

Tomorrow we are going to JCPenney for 1 & 3 year old pictures.  Hopefully it will go well.
