Thumb Sucker?

I've noticed over the last few weeks that Aubree has been putting her thumb in her mouth from time to time. And here is the proof in print! I'm not sure how I feel about this. At least with binkies, they can eventually be thrown away. A thumb, not so much. I was a thumb sucker and I remember all the things my parents went through to try and get me to stop. They would wrap it up with gauze or tape or whatever it was and I would rip it off.
They would put some nasty tasting stuff on it and I would just suck it off. I would not be deterred. I have no idea how I eventually stopped but the damage was done. It took three years of braces to get rid of those buck teeth! So yeah, I don't think I'm a fan of the thumb. We'll see how this pans out.

You may have noticed Kelly is the above picture. She and Steve got here last night. They're staying with us until Monday morning when I take them to Port Canaveral for a 4-day cruise. Lucky ducks. Not that I would want to be going on one in my current life situation, mind you. Anywho, Calleigh has been having an absolute blast with Steve. He's been chasing her all over the place and she's been laughing her head off at all his antics. He's definitely going to make a great Dad some day! And speaking of Steve, what can only be deemed an amazing coincidence, our garbage disposal broke yesterday...just in time for Steve to arrive and fix it. Done and done.

Today is Yully's birthday so the whole gang is out at Kobe Steakhouse celebrating. Poor little old me is stuck at home on baby/boobie duty. Ron & Elaine are out of town but even if they were around, I'd probably still be here because of Aubree's bottle aversion. I really need to try the bottle again actually. I hate being held hostage. But besides that, I really needed to do my workout so yes, here I am home alone (well, sortof) on a Saturday night lifting weights. I think it's already paying off though. I was hesitant to weigh myself in case nothing had happened or I had gained some (afterall, muscle IS heavier than fat, right?) but I did weigh in and I had lost 2.5 pounds in the first week. So I'm quite happy! My workout was interrupted slightly but Calleigh yelling down to me that she had taken her jammies off. Sure enough, I went up to her crib and there she was lounging against the crib railing buck naked. I have no idea what the meaning behind that was. Attention perhaps?

One other thing about my working out. I started listening to Shawn's sermons on my iPod while I'm using my treadmill. As luck would have it, the first one I listened to which was on Thursday night, was 37 minutes long. And because he ended with two very good stories, I stayed on the treadmill for the whole 37 minutes. I called Shawn afterwards and told him that I was glad his sermon was so long and hopefully that's how the rest will be! Sorry Camille - - hope that isn't a problem for you. Ha! It's great with his sermons because you can get them right off iTunes if you search for "Shawn Brace" and then just download it to your computer. The one I listened to was "Seeking the Lost: Unstoppable" and it was excellent.

A couple of things about Calleigh...For some reason, when she'll get near Aubree, she'll often say to me "Mommy, you want to tell Aubree that her big sister is here?" Or sometimes she'll say, "Tell Aubree that I have her toy" or whatever it is. I don't know why she started doing that since clearly, she's standing right in front of Aubree herself! Starting today I told Calleigh that she needs to just tell Aubree that herself so maybe that will be the end of it. The other thing is that I'm trying to get her to be more polite when she wants things. Typically, when she wants something she'll say "Give me an orange." So I've been reminding her now whenever she says that, that she needs to say "May I please have an orange?" instead. Sometimes she'll say it on her own but often times I have to remind her. My answer usually is "You may." So now whenever she asks her question politely, she just continues on and answers her own question and says "You may" in this cute sing song voice.

Duncan called and they're heading home so I'll end here. Good night!

Thanks for the updates. Saturday nights are not what they once were, but then this may be better. At least you're saving money!
