"There's an Ant in My Crib"

This was Calleigh's statement to me at about 3:30 this morning when she started crying/screaming for me from her crib. Since I had seen a stray cockroach in her room about a month ago - - that we never caught mind you - - I figured it was possible that she could have one crawling around in her crib. So when she told me that she wanted to sleep in my bed, I relented. I knew it was a bad decision from the get go. Naturally I couldn't fall asleep so a few minutes later I suggested that we check her crib for the ant and then maybe she could go back to sleep in there. I turned on the light and we looked underneath everything in there and of course, didn't find anything. If there had been a cockroach, he was long gone. Although I know there's a chance there REALLY was some kind of bug terrorizing her, most likely this was just an excuse she came up with to get some attention. Over the last month or two, she seems to be waking up more often than not during the night, sometimes more than once. Typically she wakes up screaming and I'm never really able to figure out why. I'm guessing she's starting to have nightmares or something. Thankfully I'm able to quickly calm her down and she's back to sleep within a couple of minutes. My friend Lauren says her two year old is doing the same thing now so it must be the age. Boy, am I glad that I'm not having to get up with Aubree any more during the night or this would really be the pits!

This morning Kristine came over with Jonathan and Jadyn and we had a nice visit. Calleigh and Jonathan play really well together. They very rarely run into sharing problems. Jadyn is doing great with her sleeping (6 to 7 hours a night) and weighs a little under 11.5 pounds at 8 weeks of age.

My exciting news of the day is that Aubree took a three hour nap this afternoon in her crib. Now that it has happened, I keep thinking how I can duplicate exactly what happened so she'll do it again. What was different about today vs. yesterday when she only slept for like 45 minutes in the afternoon? I put her in the crib this morning at about 9:30 and she slept for roughly 45 minutes. She was awake for the rest of the time until 1:30 when I put her down. We'll see if I can duplicate the magic again tomorrow. If only! Of course, the whole afternoon I kept thinking she was about to wake up because she was whimpering and making little cries at various times during the nap.

After Aubree's nap, I brought her into Calleigh's room to change her diaper since Calleigh was just getting up as well. Well, I should have thought twice. Most of the time Calleigh is very cheerful upon waking up from a nap. Today was not one of those times. When she saw me using her changing table, she get all upset. She did NOT want Aubree using her changing table. Of course, I didn't stop and that made her all the more upset. She threw herself onto the floor and that is where she stayed for about the next 20 minutes while I went into Aubree's room to feed Aubree. She cried and cried and did some yelling. It was a full blown tantrum to be sure. Then, miraculously, out of nowhere there was quiet. Hmmm. About three minutes later, in she walks to Aubree's room just as calm as could be. She comes over to me and tells me "I found my binky. I used it for a few minutes to feel better and now I"m okay." And that was that. Surprisingly she had left the binky behind so I guess she really was okay.

A couple other things made me chuckle today. Dewey was doing something inappropriate to Marlee, if you get my drift, and Calleigh declared to me that Dewey was tickling Marlee. Yes, we'll go with that. Much better. For supper I was making macaroni and cheese and she wanted to see what the macaroni looked like in the box. I showed her and she asked me "The macaroni is dead?" I'm not sure how she equates death with uncooked macaroni.

Sorry for the lack of pictures. The new camera comes tomorrow!
