Apparently the theme of this week is insects. Over the past few days, we've discovered several cockroaches running around our house. And while it has made for numerous deep discussions with Calleigh, I'm not very crazy about sharing my living space with these suckers. Now, bugs in general don't bother me (snakes are a whole different story) but I'd rather they not be here. The other morning around 7 am, I was in the living room nursing Aubree when I noticed one scurrying across the floor. I felt really bad yanking Aubree off the boob when she just got on there but I couldn't let the cockroach disappear. I grabbed Duncan's shoe and as I tried to move something out of the way, the shoe accidentally dropped out of my hand and landed on the cockroach, stunning it long enough for me to finish the job. That was the easiest catch I've ever had. Well, when Calleigh got up, I told her the story of the cockroach and how I then flushed it down the toilet. I kid you not, I must have repeated the story to her at least 20 times that day. We were in the car and she said to me "So talk to me about the cockroach" as if I hadn't just repeated it five minutes before that. We also have had a dead cockroach in the garage for probably weeks that she just noticed within the last week (yes, I suppose we should get around to disposing of it) and she always wants to go look it. She crouches down and just stares at it. Right before bed she asked to look at it. I showed it to her and then told her okay, that was enough. So she waved her hand and said "Bye cockroach. See you next time." I don't have the heart to throw it away now because I'm sure she'll be very disappointed to find it missing one of these times. Anyway, back to the infestation. Duncan found a few more yesterday and then I just saw one go under the couch about 10 minutes ago. I swear we don't live in a run down flea bitten hotel - - just the hazards of Florida living! Needless to say, Duncan is at Walmart right now trying to get some stuff to take care of this problem.

We got our new camera so I'm pretty happy. The most important thing about it is that it's shock resistant from up to 5 feet. So hopefully that would cover any drops. And yes, I would love to test it out but I guess that would be kind of dumb. I only wish more household items were shock proof. Our remote just broke when it fell off the arm of the couch and some of the functions no longer work. Since it's a remote that controls all of the entertainment devices, it's tough without it so we pretty much have to replace it even though it isn't very cheap. But back to the camera. The other thing we really like about it is that it take movies in HD and it does look so much better. Now if I could just get Calleigh and Aubree to smile at the same time...

On Friday evenings we've started a new tradition of sorts. We're going to be rotating among the three apartments/house for our meals and it appears waffles have been shelved for awhile much to Duncan's delight. Last week we were at David and Megan's new place and then last night we were at Yully's. She lives in the same complex and also just moved from a one-bedroom there to a two-bedroom. We were very impressed with her decor. All was going well with meal until I reached for the 2-liter of Cranberry soda. Yup, it started spraying every where. Thank goodness Megan was holding Aubree and not me. Well, within about two seconds, Calleigh started bawling her head off. I guess it scared her even though I wasn't yelling or anything. Then Aubree, hearing Calleigh screaming, decided to join in and so they were both going at it as loud as they could. The mother's dilemma - - who do you hold?? While Duncan helped Calleigh down from her high chair seat, I took Aubree and put her in the boob in an attempt to comfort her because she was really, really wailing as if she were in pain.

I had Calleigh come and sit down next to me on the couch so I could at least put my arm around her. Thankfully they both calmed down after a minute or two and all was well again - - well, except for my white shirt that had taken the brunt of the attack. I told David I would send him the bill since he admitted the bottle had rolled around on the seat of his car. Other than that, we did enjoy the mini pizzas. Next Friday we'll be hosting and Aunt Sherrie will be here to join in. She's coming on Tuesday to visit during the time that David is getting his wisdom teeth out.
So Aubree has not settled into the nice afternoon nap routine like I was hoping, at least not yet. I keep putting her down in the morning at the same time and that works out well with a 45-minutes nap but the afternoon thing is a work in progress. We have not repeated the three hours or come close. I'll just have to keep at it. I was hoping for a long one this afternoon since I had kept her awake all during church and on the way home but she didn't even last an hour. But, as I've said, I dare not complain too much since she sleeps so well at night.

In other Aubree news, I forgot to mention that she found her feet right after we got back from Nova Scotia. Calleigh found hers on 8/27/07 and Aubree found hers on 8/25/09 so it's interesting how close together that milestone was. I don't have on record when Calleigh started giggling/laughing for a comparison but I'm happy to say that Aubree was doing little giggles tonight when I was kissing her chest and neck while putting on her pajamas. I can't wait for the full fledged laugh. Definitely one of the best, if not THE best, sound in the world. The other thing happening was her is a massive amount of drool. I know that babies can start drooling even when the actual teeth are still a ways off so I'm thinking this is what is happening. It's soaking the entire front of her clothes a lot of the time.

This week I started teaching Calleigh a few new games. She's learned Red Light/Green Light and Simon Says. Now, I say she's learned them but she doesn't follow them exactly as intended. She doesn't quite get that you're only suppose to do the action when "Simon Says" so we've pretty much given up on trying to be tricky with leaving out the Simon Says part. She really likes to do all the motions so that makes it fun. But it's funny when she gives the instructions because she'll just say "Simon says....(long pause), fingers." She doesn't give any info on what to do with the fingers. And as far as Red Light/Green Light goes, let's just say that she would be collecting quite a few tickets for running red lights if it were real life.
I'm going to end here since the hubby and I are just about to watch a movie. I'm a little afraid to turn off the lights because I can imagine all of the cockroaches coming out of hiding when that happens...
Oh, this last little video is Calleigh in her new Jeep that Grandma and Grandpa got for her. Good times!

I have missed the pics. They grow so fast.
I started to see cockroaches coming in my home and im pretty neat. The best thing you can do is keep everything clean, disinfected, no crumbs, oil spills lying around, empty trash and also what worked for me was borax.
I found one cockroach that came out of hiding or some crack, better than the 5-6 I saw 1 time before I started using borax powder. What I do is bleach the floors, than mix borax and sugar, or you can make them into little balls using water and some flour added and put them behind your coach, corners, basement, hallways, entry, inside cabinets, fridge stove, and even sprinkle some on the counters over night. Once they come out they will eat it and they will die. It takes 2 weeks sometimes 1 week to work, but the results are worth it. Plus you don't get any toxins in the air. Insecticides or bombs don't work because the roaches are cleaver and can hide, or build resistance. Hope it works. You can find borax in the laundry detergent side.
