This was a quote from our friend Freddie Rondinelli a number of years ago. Honestly, I can't even remember the context with which he said it (in his Boston accent, hence the missing "r") but for some reason, it's become one of those phrases we say from time to time. Yesterday I finally got around to reading Sunday's paper and Calleigh always has a good time rustling around in it. Just think, when she's old enough to read, newspapers may not even exist any more!
By the way, the smile on her face did not mirror mine. This was taken yesterday morning (Wednesday) which followed Tuesday night when, for some inexplicable reason, Calleigh woke up at 1:20 am and did not go back to sleep until 2:45. I tried lying down with her in the guest bed but after 20 minutes of lying there (in which I was tricked into thinking she was following asleep) she started crawling around. So I put her back into her crib and turned her music on. She would lie down for a minute and then get back. And repeat. Meanwhile, I was resting on the giant bean bag that I moved into her room. I quickly realized that every time I moved an inch, it made a seemingly deafening noise and there was no way I was going to be able to "sneak" out. So then I moved to the floor. Every time there would be silence in the crib for a good five minutes, I would start to get up very slowly and head for the door. And then a head would pop up and a face would look at me as if to say "Where do you think you're going?" Finally, I was able to successfully sneak away and that was that. Thankfully, this ritual was not repeated last night.
One cute story from yesterday - - I had taken a load of laundry out of the dryer and put it on my bed to fold. Calleigh was roaming around in the upstairs (which she can do now that the gate is up). I left the dryer door open knowing how Calleigh loves to bang it around. As I was folding, I heard her giggling and went out into the hall to investigate but didn't see her. Upon closer inspection, however, there she was sitting in the dryer. And she wouldn't let me take her out of there for anything. She was just so excited. She kept banging on the walls and smiling and laughing. I wanted to take a picture but I dared not leave her in there while I went to go get the camera. I'm not sure that I love the idea of her being in the dryer so I think that was a one time event but it sure was cute.
Uncle Shawn is now here! We went to pick him up at the airport this morning at about 10:30. Calleigh definitely remembered him since she saw him such a short time ago. We went to meet Duncan at Qdoba (fast food Mexican) for lunch which is one of Shawn's favorite restaurants. It's a fairly new chain that just opened around here. I had brought food for Calleigh (hey, I don't really feel like buying a third meal just yet) but she had no interest in it. Instead, she ate a bunch of Uncle Shawn's cheese quesadilla. Oh well. This afternoon Calleigh and Shawn took a nap (although not together) and I did some work. I took a trip to Publix to get all the groceries I forget to get yesterday at Walmart. My defense for that is that I lost my list. I swear, sometimes I think I'm losing it. I had written up this long grocery list (lots going on this weekend with Shawn here, potluck, Cal's party, etc). I finished the list, put Calleigh in her car seat, and then couldn't find the list. I mean, I looked every where for a good 10 minutes and I could not find it. Somehow in the span of two minutes, I lost my list. I know someday I will find it in some inconspicuous place like the salad drawer in the refrigerator. Boy, does this mean I'm getting old?
Once back from Publix, Calleigh ate supper and then we went on our usual stroll with the dogs to get the mail. Sometimes, like yesterday, we stop and spend some time in the grassy area behind the mailboxes overlooking the fountain. That's what we did yesterday as you can see in this picture.Right now, I'm waiting for Duncan and Shawn to return from watching the documentary "Expelled" about intelligent design. When they return, we're going to watch the season finale of "The Office." Can't wait!!
Finally, I'm a bit perplexed by a phenomenon that has been happening the last few days. There are a bunch of dead worms all over the walkway in front of our house. I don't mean hundreds but I mean dozens. They're not in a pile - - they're spread out every few feet. It's the strangest thing. Any one have any idea why this is happening? I've never seen something like that before.
