This picture was taken at DeLeon Springs by Elaine. It has nothing to do with this post but Elaine recently sent me her pictures and I love this particular one. Yes, that is Aunt Toni in the background!
Well, we made it home. Of course, that was a few days ago. I've been remiss in my writing.
Thank goodness the flight home was much better than the flight up. We got to the airport about 1.5 hours early so there was time to kill. Fortunately, there were some little girls sitting near us that helped entertain Calleigh. When I first got to the gate, I asked the gate attendant about any empty seats. I had noticed on-line a few days earlier that the seat next to me was empty. But he said that seat was now taken but he'd see what he could do. Right before we boarded, he told me the seat was empty after all. What a relief. So it ended up that we were sitting in a row with two seats and the aisle seat was empty. It made a big difference. I was able to nurse Calleigh right from the get-go and she fell asleep and stayed that way for about 40 minutes. Once she woke up, I passed the time by playing with her and stuffing her with food. She ate: bananas, puffs, crackers, gummy fruits, cheese, grapes, and goldfish. I wouldn't normally feed her all of this stuff but when you have time to kill, you bring out whatever you can. When all else failed and she got really fidgety, I brought out the boob some more. Thankfully at no time did she start crying so I would call the flight a success. It felt like it lasted FOREVER but at least we didn't make a scene.
As it turned out, Duncan wasn't able to pick us up because he had a meeting at work. Ron & Elaine picked us up instead and Calleigh was excited to see Grandma and Grandpa. I had forgotten to remind Duncan to bring the car seat so I had to have Calleigh sit on my lap on the way home. Not that I was sick of her sitting on it or anything! Maybe I shouldn't have written this on here because I think it might be a crime not to have a baby in a car seat??
Duncan was waiting for us when we got home and we were happy to be reunited with Daddy and the puppies. So exciting! Calleigh gave a big smile and Duncan played with her until she got tired out and I put her to bed at eight. She went right to sleep - I had been a little worried that she was so thrown off schedule she wouldn't know what to do.
Now we are back to our normal routine. Nothing too exciting has been happening. Our outing yesterday consisted of going to Walmart for groceries. Today we went over to the Orlando Junior Academy gym for the final event of the Finance Olympics - basketball. Alas, Duncan's team finished last again and they finished last overall in the Olympics out of four teams. But Calleigh did like watching him play. At the end of the first game, Duncan came over to the sidelines to talk to us. We were up on the platform so Duncan was right at chest level to Calleigh who was sitting on the floor. Calleigh went right over to him and put her arms around his neck. And she wouldn't let go. Every time Duncan tried to disengage himself (he was all sweaty), Calleigh would whimper and put her arms around his neck again. It was the cutest thing! She loves her daddy!
Sorry about the lack of pictures. My camera died while I was up in Boston and I forgot to bring the battery charger.
And since I've been back, I've been too lazy to get the charger out until late this morning. The only picture I look was this one of Calleigh sitting in my suitcase that I hadn't unpacked yet.In closing, I'll mention a few of Calleigh's latest accomplishments:
- She can say "Papa" - - which is what my dad is called.
- She knows the word "balloon" although she can't say it (she tries to but it sounds like "ba" which is what she says for ball). When I ask her where her balloon is, she'll either point to it or if the balloon is in the other room, she'll crawl to it.
- When I ask her "Where is Mommy's nose?" she either points to or grabs my nose.
