"Hey Cor"

This past week, Calleigh has started calling me "Cor" a good deal of the time. I presume this is from hearing Duncan call me that. I've said to her "I would rather you call me Mommy" and then she says "Or Cor." And so we go back and forth. I'll hear, "Hey Cor, you like cottage cheese?" or "Hey Cor, I gotta boo boo on my knee." Hopefully this is a phase and I'll be back to just Mommy very soon.

Things are going well. I'm getting a little bit more time in the evenings now. I've gotten Aubree into bed by 10:15 the last few nights. And by bed, I mean her crib. We haven't fixed or bought a new swing because she's done very well with her crib. I've put her in it both asleep and awake and in both situations, she's barely made a whimper. It must be her personalized CD playing! She's consistently sleeping until just about 5 on the nose for about the last week. She'll wake up just long enough to eat for about 10 or 15 minutes at the very most and then she's asleep again until about 8. Since she barely even seems to eat at 5, I'm thinking that she shouldn't have too much trouble extending that to a later time, hopefully in the near future. I've thought about putting her to bed earlier but I really don't want to do that until she extends her sleeping during the night to ideally 7 am. Now I say that she's sleeping until 5 am but it's not like I'm sleeping straight through. She's still making noises during the night which is waking me up. I've taken the camera out of Calleigh's room to put in Aubree's but I'm just not ready yet to be in a different room. So for now, I'm on the futon in her room. Speaking of the camera, I had forgotten we had disconnected our camera when I turned the monitor on the other day. Even though I've seen it before, it always gives me a jolt when you turn it on and see your neighbor's kid in his crib - - just as clear as can be!

During the past week (or more as Mom and Aunt Shirley may attest), Aubree has started to come out with some little smiles. We haven't had a full fledged one just yet but she's definitely starting to use those muscles. It really is special when she reacts to you like that. It reminds me that, yes, she's a real person.

Let's see, what have we been up to. Well, last evening we take a family outing to Target to get some shoes for Calleigh. We had misplaced one of her crocs last week (somewhere in her room no less) and I came to the startling realization that she was then down to only one pair of shoes. When you put it like that, I felt like a terrible mother. But truthfully when you're in Florida in the summer, it's not like your wearing a bunch of closed toe shoes or anything. Regardless, off to the store we went and picked her up some boots, beach shoes, and one other pair. I did end up finding the missing croc in the laundry basket in the end. Anyway, she's been wearing the boots almost none stop since we got them so they've been a big hit. Unfortunately I can't post a picture because I misplaced my little gadget that I use to get the pictures on my computer. Yes, we DO lose a lot of things around here. The trip was actually a way for Duncan to try out the double stroller for the first time and he gave it two thumbs up! The good news is that Calleigh has been really good about not bugging Aubree which was my big concern about the side-by-side.

We had a nice Sabbath. I was able to debut the girls in their matching outfits courtesy of Aunt Toni who had given me matching dresses for them. As I've mentioned, one of the biggest appeals of having two girls is being able to dress them alike. So that was my thrill for the day. Of course, Calleigh didn't cooperate with a nice smile or anything while I was trying to take the picture. After nap time, Sherrie, Kevin, David, Yully, Megan, Tiffany, and Bob and Karen MacDougall all came over and we went over to Trotwood Park to see the ducks and turtles. It was sad to say good-bye to Sherrie and Kevin (they left on Sunday) because Calleigh has had such a good time with them.

Yesterday, Duncan and Allen took the girls to Sea World for a neat father/daughter outing. They have a Sesame Street show there and just about every other day since we were last there (Father's Day) Calleigh has said to me "Remember Abby?" or "Remember Elmo?" So I knew she would be excited to go back. While they were gone, I had some "free" time to clean the house and do laundry. I use "free" loosely because obviously I still had Aubree to take care of but fortunately, she's not too much of a hand full at this point. I did get in a trip to Thriftko so it wasn't all work. However, I did end up having to hold Aubree the whole time. It's amazing how much you can do with one hand when you have to whether it's shopping or cleaning the fridge like I did this evening.

Well, I'm sure there is lots more that I could say but I will end here as the thought of a lovely bath before going to bed is just too much to resist. It's already 11:30 and if I want to be in bed, or rather, futon, before midnight, I better get a move on it.

If you end up with four girls please do not continue with the matching outfits, it is a killer to the 4th one. Same outfit for years upon years and more years because I think I was in a 6X for about three years anyway, before moving to all the other three sizes!
