I remarked a few days ago that I didn't know if I would have the time to ever post a blog entry again. Sometimes it really feels like that! Now that I'm working again (as of last Thursday) I have even less time. I'm trying to get Aubree to bed by 10:30 these days so I have a little time afterwards to do things that require two hands before I hit the sack myself.
It's busy but things are going well. Aubree is now seven weeks old and becoming more of a real person everyday in that she's looking around, taking in her world or at least as much of it as she's physically able to see. I can tell how much she likes to look at my face and I can also tell already how much she likes Calleigh. I weighed her a couple of days ago and she's at 9 lbs, 12 oz. She's put on 3+ pounds since she was born and is now nicely filling out the newborn and even some of the 0-3 month clothes. As far as sleep goes...we haven't had any repeats yet of when she made it all the way to 6:30 am but she's been pretty good about going to 4 or 5. So at least I'm only having to wake up once during the night. The poor thing is probably wondering when I'll pick a spot where she sleeps at night. I've tried putting her in practically every room and in every sleeping contraption trying to hit upon the best method. A few days ago I had finally decided, okay, I'm just going to put her in her crib in her room and be done with it. But then she seemed to have a restless sleep, making all kind of noises, and I decided it just didn't work for me. So she was back in the swing the next night and slept very soundly until about 5:30. Then last night, the swing gave up the ghost in the middle of the night. I know it's not the batteries because the sound still works perfectly fine. Needless to say, she's in her crib again tonight and once again, I'm vowing that this is it. We'll see how it goes! I may be looking for a new swing on Craig's List unless Duncan can get it fixed. I put her to bed awake about 20 minutes ago and while she's not asleep yet, at least she's not crying. Check that, here come a few little whimpers. Time to do a binky check. And yes, Shawn, I'm listening to the song Aubree, You're One in a Million. Ha!
During the day, she's been having more awake time but fortunately has been cooperating with taking a long afternoon nap or two at the same time as Calleigh so I can "go" to work. Of course, I haven't been getting in my full three hours as I was accustomed to because I usually have to do a feeding some time during that stretch. But I'm just thankful it's all been working out so far. We'll see how long it continues.
We've had quite a few things going on since I last wrote, most notably a trip up north to visit Papa, Gigi, and baby Camden! We were up there from June 24 - July 1. Despite bad weather for a good portion of the trip, we had a great time. The flights went very smoothly thanks to Shannon being there for support. Aubree slept/ate pretty much the whole time and Calleigh slept the last 15 minutes of each flight. We managed to entertain her pretty well the rest of the time. We went to both Southern and Northern New England campmeetings and Calleigh enjoyed the cradle roll meetings. We didn't get to spend nearly enough time with Camden as we were only in Maine for less than 24 hours. I held him for maybe 2 minutes but I liked what I saw in those few minutes. I can't wait until Nova Scotia when I can really check him out and get to know him. We also spent a fun day at the Cape (where we were when we found out about Michael Jackson. You may recognize that name as he's been mentioned a time or two on the news lately. Ha ha!) visiting with the family, Calleigh eating her first popsicle, having a picnic supper at the beach, and seeing Rad and Jen's new house.
Here's a video of Duncan picking us up at the airport.
This week, Aunt Sherrie and Uncle Kevin are down visiting David and staying at his place. On Friday, we met them at Bruester's for ice cream and Calleigh had first very own ice cream cone. We got her a baby cone in peach and no surprise, she ate the whole thing. They came over for dinner on Sabbath along with Aunt Wanda and then today the two of them went with us to the splash playground in Winter Springs. Calleigh has had a real affinity for the two of them since she played with them at the Cape along with their dog Gracie. In fact, Calleigh now refers to Sherrie as "Sher." Somehow she got into nicknames and I told her Sherrie's nickname is "Sher" so she'll ask me "Where's Sher?"
Calleigh has been doing a lot better with Aubree for the most part. She's not as rough with her although I still keep a very close on things to make sure she's not forcing a binky into her mouth or something. The first thing in the morning she usually asks me when I come up to get her out of her crib is "Where's Aubree?" And then when we get downstairs, she looks all around and when she sees Aubree she'll say in a happy sing song voice "There's Aubree!!" I've also noticed that she gets a little possessive of Aubree around certain people, strangers I think. When we were at the airport, she very sternly told both the gate agent and flight attendant who were looking at Aubree, "Don't touch Aubree." She kept saying it over and over again to them.
My big excitement over the last few days is that I finally got my double stroller. With us gone up north, I had kind of put it on the back burner and hadn't thought a whole lot about it after getting back. But I check Craig's List every day to see if anything interesting pops up and on Monday night, it did. I found a Zooper Tango on there for $135. My friend Stephanie had raved about hers and I was thinking it would be a good one to get but at $400 brand new, I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that much. So obviously I was very excited to find it. Once I got it home, I did notice it had a bit of a smoky smell to it but Duncan washed the pieces of it and cleaned the rest of it up and I can't smell anything now. I took both of them for a walk last night and I really love it. The only downside is that our car seat doesn't fit in it although some other brands will. Fortunately the seats fully recline so Aubree can still ride in it comfortably without a car seat.
Finally, a little snippet that warmed my heart. Calleigh has been very good about going up and down the stairs on her own but sometimes for expediency sake, I'll carry her. Sometimes I'll have Aubree on one arm and Calleigh in the other. So I'll tell Calleigh about how I have my two girls. Yesterday Calleigh was standing at the top of the stairs and I was at the bottom holding Aubree. She calls down to me that she wants me to carry her. I tell her to just walk down. But then she says to me "Don't you want to have your two girls, Mommy?" Of course, it worked like a charm!

I know you've been very very busy but, I LOVE your blog.
Corey, I have missed the blog the last couple of weeks. I hope you continue to find time to write it. The stories are priceless!
Thank you ladies! That's what keeps me going.
I'm not a lady but I agree!!!
Perky
Got a little teary eyed when I saw Calleigh running to her father on the video and shouting, "daddy! daddy!" One of the great blessings of life from God.
