Who's Bigger?

A little while ago I picked up my sister-in-law, Camille, from the airport. She's here until Sunday for some rest and relaxation. She's a teacher at a church school and they're on winter break this week. Of course, we had to compare our bellies! For a point of reference, Camille is eight days more pregnant than I. Calleigh (who was already in bed by the time we got back from the airport) is excited that Camille is coming. When I mention Camille is coming on an airplane, Calleigh says two things: "Baby Beluga" and "Shawn?". She associates the song Baby Beluga with Camille because Camille always sings it to her and of course, she associates Camille with Shawn. Unfortunately Shawn couldn't take the week off work to come down. Right now, Shannon, Camille, and Duncan are watching the Bachelorette while I write.
I should probably add that Duncan is only watching it so he can make fun of all the desperate women (and no, he doesn't watch it every week. He's only watching it because they have it on here.) Incidentally, Duncan and Shannon felt left out of the belly comparison so here they are.

The big activity over the weekend was getting our garage cleaned up. We know we have to move stuff from the guest room/office to make room for the baby and as it stood, there wasn't much room in there. And quite frankly, the garage was a giant mess. Duncan started in on the project Saturday night and finished it yesterday. My contribution was sweeping it out once it was cleaned. Big contribution, huh? But hey, I just pull out the 7-months pregnant card. Actually, I did do a little more than that. I went through all of Calleigh's old clothes to get rid of some things she never wore and to get all the boxes neatly labeled since after all, they'll be used again in the not too distant future. After the garage was done, we had a nice big pile of stuff to take to the Goodwill which is nice space wise and nice for some cha-ching when it comes to filing taxes.

As we worked on the garage, Calleigh poked her head in there and started remembering all of her stuff that she no longer uses like her swing, car seat, Bumbo, etc. Naturally, she wanted to play with them all. So we at least gave her the Bumbo to use last night. She managed to fit in it but we kept thinking she was going to tip over backwards and hit her head. I had her keep it on the carpet and then even better, when she went to bed last night, I put it back in the garage thinking that was the end of it. Nope. The first thing this morning, she looked for that Bumbo when she came downstairs. When she didn't see it, she ran over to the garage door and started pounding on it. So I got it back out and fortunately she hasn't had any problems. When Duncan got home, he started giving Calleigh an airplane ride in it, flying her all over the house. This got very, very tiring but when he stopped, she cried like you had cut off her hand or something. It was very dramatic.

On Sunday we did our usual Farmer's Market and First Watch. At the market, we ran into a little girl with her grandparents and brother. She looked very similar in age to Calleigh and it turned out that she was one day older. She was very friendly and patted her chest and said "I'm Sienna." Calleigh was happy to hold her hand and walk around....When we left First Watch, we were walking to our car and there was a binky lying on the ground. Duncan tried to hide it but Calleigh spotted it and of course, wanted to get it. I told her that it was somebody else's binky that they must have dropped. She's probably talked about that binky on the ground about 15 times since yesterday. I knew that would happen. It's funny how she'll notice certain things and won't stop talking about them. As another example, she saw a picture in one of her books of a little girl that had dropped her ice cream cone on the ground. For the next few days after she first spotted that picture, she would talk about it all the time and kept wanting to go look at it.

Other tidbits that don't get their own paragraph...

  • I got my haircut yesterday (after 5 months without). It was a slow day and the hairdresser said she was bored. Apparently she tried to drag things out with me and my hair is a lot shorter than I was anticipating. That's SuperCuts for you. (Sidebar - Don't you find it alarming when you go into a hair salon and the receptionist has purple and blue hair? I can't imagine this installs a lot of confidence in getting your hair down there unless that's your style. I should have used that as an omen).
  • I forgot how much I love the show "Amazing Race." I missed it last season but I'm back on board this season and it's awesome. I especially love it when they go places I've been and so far that includes Salzburg, Austria and Munich, Germany.
  • I care less and less about the Oscars every year. I remember 1998 when I stayed up through the middle of the night in England to watch them with my cousin Alison. That was the year Titanic won. Now, forget it.
  • My grandmother is out of the hospital and into my mom's nursing home, Hancock Park, for rehab.
  • Yesterday was the first day that I actually felt really pregnant. At the end of the day, my back was hurting and my stomach felt really big. Fortunately today I feel better. Whew.

Who's bigger? What area are you talking about?

I am not sure what is cuter --- the 2 pregnant ladies or Princess Calleigh holding hands with the little girl. We'll call it a tie.

I love the belly shot, girls! You look so cute! And I have to say that I still watch the Oscars every year - but I do remember that it was extra special watching them with you in England.
