Aunt Sherrie!

Yesterday Aunt Sherrie and Uncle Kevin (David's parents) flew in from Vermont. They're staying at the cousin's place. We went over there this evening for waffle night. We hadn't seen them since Rad's wedding back in July so obviously quite some time has passed for Calleigh to remember them. I don't know if she actually remembered them or not but it didn't take her long at all to warm right up to them. They brought some books (I'm particularly excited about one that's for Sabbath that has things hidden under flaps) for her and Aunt Sherrie read her some. And then before you knew it, Aunt Sherrie had her smiling, giggling, and then laughing hysterically at some antics. I think she had a really good time. They'll be here for the next week so I'm certain she will get to know this aunt and uncle very well.

This afternoon I went into work for a meeting with my new boss and a few others. My boss (okay, he's actually my boss's boss's boss - - follow that? - - but in my old job, he was my direct boss), Doug recently took another position in the hospital. His replacement is someone that I like a lot but it's still pretty sad for me because I had worked with Doug for about the last eight or nine years. Anyway, the new boss and a few others wanted to learn about the capital process so I went in to do a tutorial. The meeting went well and I enjoy these people that I work with but as I left the building, I couldn't stop thinking about how glad I was that I didn't do that every day. I have such a great life being home with Calleigh so I called Duncan and told him a big thank you for that. I sure couldn't do it if he didn't work so hard. Incidentally, Duncan had come home early so that he could be here this afternoon while I was gone so that was nice of him too.

Recently Calleigh has gotten into this new habit called "naked baby." I would say it's pretty self explanatory. She likes to be naked. I know all kids go through this so it's no surprise. The last week or two she's really gotten more into it and every time I change her diaper she asks if she can do "naked baby." So a lot of times I just let her go free - - at least for a few minutes. Bad idea on my part this morning. I'm sure you can imagine what could go wrong with this scenario. Sure enough, about five minutes into "naked baby" I hear this semi-wail coming from her room and out she runs saying "poo poo, poo poo." And there it was lying on the floor. Thankfully the dogs were in my bed and weren't roaming around. I put her on the toilet (we were upstairs) to see if she had go any more although I was pretty sure that had to be it after seeing the display in her room. After a quick tub and some stain remover on the carpet, we were good to go. I'll definitely be more careful in the future (like not going number two in two days = leaving diaper on at all times). Of course, during the rest of the day, she mentioned the poo poo on the floor a couple of times and I told her that next time she needs to go, tell Mommy so she can go on the potty. We'll see if it sinks in.

This last section will be boring to most people so feel free to check out here. But I did want to write it down for the record. It's about my pregnancy the second time around. As I've said, I was sure this baby was a boy because things have been quite different this time. So I decided to do a little comparison. What's the same and what's different.

Different:
  • No throwing up at all and barely even any nausea compared to throwing up just about every day (sometimes multiple times) during the first 14 weeks. Obviously this was a very big difference.
  • No legs cramps. Last time if I stretched my legs, I would get these terrible leg cramps. I had no idea how much I actually stretched until it started hurting. I finally figured out that I had to point my toes to the ceiling and this would prevent the cramps but it took many episodes before I figured that one out. This time I stretch as I normally do and I don't feel a single twitch.
  • No extreme thirst. Last time I developed an intense addiction to Gatorade (first the yellow and then the red) because I was incredibly thirsty all the time. I would wake up in the middle of the night and just guzzle it down. I wouldn't dare step outside of the house without some form of beverage to take with me. Now, I'm still thirsty (although I think I'm generally a thirsty person) and I usually have my handy red plastic cup by my side filled with water but I can easily make it through the night without drinking anything and can make a trip somewhere without a drink.
  • No general aches and pains. I swear that if I didn't have this bump and I didn't feel some movement going on, I wouldn't know I was pregnant. I feel just the same as I did before I got pregnant. I know that last time I would feel some back pain (although not too bad) or other pains when I would stand up or what have you. Hey, I'm sure it's coming because there's still about 13 weeks to go here so I probably shouldn't talk about this one too much.

Same

  • Itching. Both times I've had a lot of itching, mostly on my back. I guess this is something that happens although I'm not sure why.
  • Minor Cravings. I wouldn't say I've had a lot of cravings for particular foods although I did go through a few weeks last time where I seemed to eat a lot of pineapple. I'm in that place again right now. I'm sure we can all agree that there's nothing like a fresh cut juicy pineapple, right?? (sidebar - - I'm going to the fridge now to get some)
  • Weight Gain. This is kind of an unfinished comparison. So far, the weight gain has been similar. I haven't gained a lot which is similar to the last time through the first 25 weeks. I weighed myself yesterday and I had lost a couple of pounds compared to being weighed at my last appointment (after eating a lot the night before). As of yesterday, then, I had gained about eight or nine pounds in total. The problem is that if I duplicate last time, I've got some significant weight gain in front of me. When all was said and done, I had gained 40 with Calleigh with a large chunk of it coming in the last probably 10 weeks. Let's hope this isn't a repeat.

So I think that about sums things up.

I will sign off here and head up for my bathtub. Happy Sabbath!

Your photo looks great Corey! I didn't know you had leg cramps first time around, I have gotten them like 3 times while stretching in bed. It feels like a huge charlie horse or something.
