Are We in Boston?

When Calleigh and I went to Walmart this morning for groceries, I could have sworn I was in Boston on a cold, sunny December day. Don't worry, this is not me complaining about the cold again because I'm sure those who live up north and suffer (I know some actually enjoy the cold so this doesn't apply to them) with the real cold, hate to hear this. I'm merely telling you this information so you know what's going on down here. It was about 40 degrees but with the sun, it didn't feel all that bad - just very crisp. Calleigh was in a long sleeve and a thick sweater but as we walked into the store, some lady called after me, "She needs a hat on!" I couldn't help but mutter under my breath that she would survive the 30 feet between where we parked the car and the front entrance to Walmart. I can see where it's a little annoying when people question how you have your child dressed or whatever. Funny thing is, as I walked the aisles, I saw a girl about Calleigh's age with sandal type shoes and no socks and of course, I thought (but just to myself) why would her parents not put socks on her in this weather??

I'm picking Kelly up at the airport this evening around 11 and I do feel bad about the weather for her sake. After all, don't people come down here to escape the cold? Fortunately the temps will be back up to the 70's by Sabbath. Plus, all the days are sunny so that really makes a big difference.

On Tuesday we were going to meet Kristine and Jonathan at the playground (apparently Jonathan has been talking about playing with Calleigh) but unfortunately Jonathan is under the weather so we're re-scheduling for next week. Calleigh has had a slightly runny nose and rash herself but it's all due to some new teeth. Last week she had her finger in her mouth all the time and we figured something was up. This week I can see that she's getting two new teeth on the bottom and one on the top. Once they're in, it will be bring the grand total of teeth to 15.

Wednesday we had an impromptu outing to the mall with Lauren and Caroline (22 months) and then also Trish and Grayson (18 months and pictured here). We met them at the playground in the mall.
As I've said before, its not like the kids actually play together at this age but it's still nice to get together at the very least so the mommys can talk. Lauren, who is due 5/17, wasn't going to find out the sex of the baby but they decided to afterall. They had the doctor write it down on a piece of paper and then they opened it on Christmas Even. Isn't that neat? It's a girl so we'll each have two girls that are almost the same ages. Trish is also pregnant, due July 25, and when she told me that I almost fell over because she has no belly whatsoever. Anyway, as far as the playground itself, we had to make an emergency exit because Calleigh was completely out of control with a little boy, Maddux. He was about the same size as she but was probably only around 12 months. She was obsessed with him. She followed him everywhere and would not stop hugging him and kissing him, mostly on the mouth. I literally had to drag her out of there because she WOULD NOT STOP. I don't know if it was his bald head or what.

We've had a couple of visits from cousins this week. On Tuesday evening, David came over so that I could assist him with organizing his student loans. It's a sad fact of life, isn't it? Yesterday afternoon/evening, Shannon dropped by to do some studying. She says there are too many distractions at home for her so she likes to go elsewhere. I'm not sure how a loud toddler is any better but regardless, we were happy with her presence.

Calleigh has picked up some new words/phrases this week. The first is the use of the word "mine" or more specifically, "mines". She's figured out that she doesn't have to say that something is Calleigh's. She can say "This mines." She holds an orange and will keep repeating, "This mines." The other one is "wants." A few days ago she started saying "Calleigh wants lizards," "Calleigh wants hats," "Calleigh wants stroller." Basically she started using it with any word that she could think of. I'm not sure if using the word "want" is necessarily a good thing since you know, it's not great to want so many things. So we'll see how this one pans out.

In closing, here's a picture of Duncan trying out my new Moby that I got for Christmas. I wanted one of these do-dads because I find the Bjorn not that comfortable and I figured I would want to be using a baby carrier a lot more with the second one. It holds kids up to 35 pounds so Duncan gave it a whirl with Calleigh and proclaimed it to be pretty comfortable. Calleigh seemed to like it too.

I'm off to put in some time with the taxes before the airport run. I'm working on a nifty refund..
