Super Bowl Party

Since our team wasn't playing in the big game this year, it was possible to actually enjoy food and company. When the Pats are in, we have to closely monitor who we invite over. We don't want any non-fans. And the eating part is hard because you don't want to be making stuff during the game and you can't get up to get food while the commercials are on because you don't want to miss those either. We didn't have any of those concerns last night and we had over a small crowd of Shawn, Ron, Elaine, Toni, Terry, Shannon, Megan, David, Yully, Pavel (a sort of relative of David), Allen, Tangie, Braelyn, and Mike. We had SO much food and it was all very good. I really only half watched the game for the first half because of food prep and watching Calleigh. Ahhh, Calleigh. I think she enjoyed the party the most. She ate a good supper at about 6 and then when people arrived and started eating, she went from person to person trying to get food off their plates. If they didn't volunteer it, she would just reach her hand in and take it. She ate enough fruit to last her a week. We made a coconut whip cream for the fruit salad and she took a particular liking to that. Yully was kind enough to let her sit on her lap and gave her a fork and let her dig in to her bowl of it.

Now I'm not a big gambler or anything like that so don't get the wrong idea but Rad had called me up a few weeks ago and asked if I wanted to put $10 in on a pool at his work. I said sure. I randomly got assigned the digits of Pittsburgh 0 and Arizona 7. At the end of each quarter, if the Pittsburgh score ended in 0 and the Arizona score ended in 7, I would win $250. Not a bad chunk of change. Well, as the second quarter drew to a close, the Steelers were up 10-7 but the Cardinals were driving. At the last second, the Cardinals threw an interception in the end zone and Duncan and I started jumping up and down that we were going to win. But then that stinking Harrison ran the interception back for a touchdown and there went my $250. But as luck would have it, the third quarter ended 20 - 7 and I indeed won! It wasn't all about the money though. I really did want the Cardinals to win as probably anyone who isn't a Steelers fan wanted. You should have seen the room go berserk when Fitzgerald scored the touchdown to put the Card ahead with 2+ minutes left. You would have thought it was the Patriots. Sadly, the game did not end as we had hoped but at least it was exciting. However, we were outraged that the last play did not get reviewed. How do you not review a questionable play at the end of the Super Bowl? I suppose it wouldn't have mattered as there was barely any time left but still...

As for other thoughts on the Super Bowl festivities...I thought the Jennifer Hudson national anthem was absolutely amazing. I've been a huge fan of hers ever since she was on American Idol. However, I learned today that she lip synched it so that's a bit of a blow...
Kurt Warner's wife really threw me for a loop. The last I had seen of her, albeit years ago, she had short dark hair and now it's long and blond...I thought the commercials were not that great but maybe we've built them up too much in our minds. But it sure seemed like there was a lot of violence in them which really doesn't do anything for me. Lastly, did you see "The Office?" It was worth the wait after the post game. It was definitely one of the best ones. That first five minutes in the fire was hilarious. And some of Michael's lines were great such as when he said that he hoped someone would contact YouTube to film his roasting and then when he spewed the one-liners about the staff at the end such as for Kevin, "I couldn't decide on a fat joke or a dumb joke...Roasted."

This morning at about 7:30 I had to take Shawn to the airport for him to head home. It was very nice having him here. He is such a great person to talk to and I often discuss moral issues or other "deep" topics to get his perspective. This is something I really appreciate about him. Anyway, Duncan stayed home with Calleigh while I went so that she didn't have to eat a hurried breakfast or take the airport trip. Duncan called me to ask how to prepare her breakfast and I gave him the instructions. But then I was telling Shawn that that is one thing I kind of need to remember when it comes to parenting. Just because I do something a certain way, doesn't mean that Duncan has to do it the same way. So really, Duncan could have fed her whatever he came up with for breakfast and it would have been just fine(unless, you know, it was donuts and soda or something).

After I got back, it was a quick shower and then Elaine arrived to watch Calleigh while I went to my 24-week OB appointment. Apparently Calleigh wasn't the only one who ate a lot last night - - at least that's what I'm blaming it on. I gained 7 pounds in the last four week and 4 of it occurred in the last 5 days. I had weighed myself on Wednesday or Thursday last week so I was quite surprised at how much it had increased today when I was weighed. Must have been the party, right?? Anyway, overall I believe I have gained 11 pounds which is quite reasonable. Everything was fine at the appointment. The baby was kicking away while we listened to the heartbeat and everything measured normally. I was hoping to schedule my c-section but they say the schedule still isn't out yet. I go back in three weeks instead of four because I have to do the glucose test. That's where they make you drink this really sugary drink and then test your blood an hour later to see if you might have gestational diabetes.

When I got home it was raining and stayed that way for the rest of the day so Calleigh and I decided to be homebodies. We read a lot of books, did some wrestling, and sang some songs. Right now she's into the Hokey Pokey which they sing at story time. I sang the song and took her through all the motions. Every time I would stop she would say "More pokey" and I would have to start singing again. She even tried to do the Hokey Pokey while she was in the tub tonight and I had to put a kabash on that.

In closing, here are some pictures that Shawn took yesterday. Notice the headband to keep her flowing locks out of her face. Just kidding, of course! This is my headband that she decided she wanted to wear.

Corey, I thoroughly enjoy talking with you as well! Always a joy.

As for a few things: I talked with a Steelers fan on the plane who had been at the Super Bowl, and he claimed that the refs did review that Warner fumble at the end. I guess I have no reason to not believe him, though NBC certainly didn't do a good job of covering that. When I watched the highlights of the game on NFL.com yesterday as well, Rich Eisen and co. made no mention of it either, nor did they show the play over again. That seems very strange to me.

Secondly, you must clarify that when Fitzgerald caught that second TD and we went wild, the "we" was a very small group at that point. All the Copseys had left at that point, as did a number of others. Anyway, just though I'd add my two cents.

I have to admit that I was not looking forward to the super bowl AT ALL this year ( I wonder why)...but it was one of the best that I have seen. Unfortunately it did not come out the way I wanted to either. I was livid that they did not review the play - especially being AT THE END of the Superbowl. But if Shawn's info is correct - I still think it was a incomplete pass. Anyway, love the pics of Cal - she is looking older and older!! (=
