Girls, Girls, Girls

The other day I started thinking about all the women I know that are pregnant and how a disproportionate amount of them are having girls.

  1. Wendy - February, Girl
  2. Leslie - March, Boy
  3. Whitney - March, Girl
  4. Michelle - April, Girl
  5. Andrea - April, Girl
  6. Camille - May, Boy
  7. Lauren # 1 - May, Girl
  8. Myself - May, Girl
  9. Jennifer - May, Girl
  10. Lauren # 2 - June, Girl
  11. Kristine - July, Girl

That equates to 9 out of 11 woman having girls. I guess that means that the two baby boys will have a nice wide variety to choose from!

Back to a personal note, the good news is that my grandmother had her partial hip replacement surgery yesterday and is on the road to recovery. I've been trying to explain to Calleigh about it and she seems to get confused. As I wrote on my mother's Facebook page, she keeps saying that "Mimi broke her knee." I tell her that no, it's her hip and then she'll point to her hip instead. I have no idea why she's so hung up on the knee. Maybe it's because she has so many scrapes on her knees herself (got a few more yesterday in fact). Anyway, not that I'm complaining or anything because obviously my grandmother is going through this big ordeal but one stinky thing is that my mother is having to cancel her trip down here from March 2 - 10. We had just booked a few days in Naples at a condo next to the ocean and I had started talking to Calleigh about Gigi being here in a few weeks. Oh well. We will get over it. It's more important for my mom to be there with Mimi - - very understandable.

On Tuesday morning, we had our standing date with Kristine and Jonathan at the playground. We didn't have any sand throwing this week (for the most part) so that was good. Afterwards, we went to the library for story time. We were in there listening to a story and before I knew what was happening, Calleigh had run over to a little baby (probably 6 months) and started hugging him very tightly. By the time I got over there, he had burst into tears. The grandmother was very nice and said that he was used to getting squeezed by his older sisters but in this case, Calleigh's barrette had scraped against his face causing him to cry. So you take this incident and then yesterday while we were walking in our neighborhood, we saw another baby in a stroller that she went over to and started grabbing at his bib pretty hard (apparently in an attempt to hug him). It did end on a cute note though. I told the mother "I'm sorry about that." The next thing I know, Calleigh's running off and yelling over her shoulder "Sorry 'bout that." But really, somehow I do need to get across to her that she needs to be gentle with babies. Maybe once her baby sister is here and she cries when Calleigh treats her roughly, she'll get the picture!

On Wednesday, Elaine picked us up and we went over to the nursery so she could look around for some new plants (many people lost stuff due to the freezing weather we had). Calleigh LOVED the millions of little rocks that were used on the pathways. She wouldn't stop playing with them. The only thing that could distract her was the little wagon thingy that people can pull around to get their plants. She sat on it for awhile while Elaine pulled it but then she wanted to get down and pull it herself which amazingly she was able to do. It proved to be a very slow moving trip as she stopped every two seconds to put rocks on the wagon. After the nursery, we met Ron at the Macaroni Grill for lunch.

Last night we were invited to Jim and Ellie Baez's for supper. It was Uncle Kevin, Uncle Terry, David, Yully, and Shannon joining us there. We were delayed in eating by about an hour due to some late arrivals but it was well worth the wait. Ellie is a great cook and made rice, choplets with an onion and garlic sauce, plantains, and some other stuff that I can't name but was really good. I ended up feeding Calleigh before we ate since it was getting late but she didn't eat any of her food save a few grapes. It's always strange when she doesn't want to eat since she loves food. I'm sure it was because we were at a strange place. But once we all started eating, she ate some plantains off my plate and then what I call "better than Christmas" for Calleigh came out. A fruit salad! I couldn't get the fruit onto my plate fast enough for her to eat.

Today was Walmart and groceries - - nothing exciting at all. I did come to the realization that carrying the groceries inside and putting them away is just about at the top of the list of household chores that I don't like to do. I'll take cleaning the tub and toilets any day over that.

In closing, here are a few other items on my mind...

  • Southwest Airlines is going to start flying to Boston in the fall. Yay! It flies to Providence right now which is equal distance to my folks house but this will give us more options and perhaps lower fares with other airlines at Logan.
  • President Obama has never seen a hockey game. Wow!
  • I'll never eat a tic tac again without thinking of A-Fraud.
  • I wonder how much the top 12 American Idol contestants get to see their families while they're doing the show. I keep thinking about Alexis Grace and her daughter, similar to Calleigh's age, and how she'll most likely be separated from her for months if she stays on the show and how can she do that? Here's hoping they let the daughter stay with her.
  • Today Dewey Darnell turned 63 - - aka, 9. Happy birthday Mr. Boy.

That's a wrap. I'm off to watch the premiere of Amazing Race from Sunday night since The Office is a repeat (not that I don't love the repeats).
