Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Somehow writing about the exciting game we went to on Monday night has lost it's luster now that the Sox lost last night and appear to be on the verge of losing tonight's game as well. But for what it's worth, we had a great time. We drove down in Shannon's car (thinking it gets the best gas mileage of the available options). Since David had to work until about 4:30 and I didn't want to drop Calleigh off at Duncan's work too early, we didn't end up leaving Orlando until a few minutes before five. We hit a little traffic but managed to get into our seats about five minutes before the first pitch. We missed the national anthem but that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess. As you may know, the game started off with a bang when Big Papi jacked one out in the first inning. Five more homeruns (by other players) followed that during the game and we enjoyed every one of them. Final score was 13 - 5. Obviously we picked the right game to go to.

A couple of tidbits about the game. First of all, a really cool thing about Tropicana Field is that they allow you to bring your own food. So I had made up some hot dog spread sandwiches and brought those along with some cookies. When you don't have to pay for food, you don't feel as bad about spending $4 for a drink. Secondly, I could help but notice all the babies. There were a lot of little babies in their Red Sox outfits. There's no way I would have ever been able to bring Calleigh in when she was an infant (or especially now). She wouldn't have lasted more than a few minutes without bawling. But I kept watching this little 3 or 4 month baby that was sitting a few rows in front of us. He didn't cry once although he was awake the whole time. I kept wanting to go down and ask the people if they wanted me to take a turn holding him! Thirdly, we almost had a fist right break out right next to us. Allegedly a Rays fan who was sitting next to Ron was throwing his popcorn at a lady in a Red Sox jersey a few rows ahead of him. She flew off the handle and was shaking her fist and swearing at him in a VERY loud voice. We think she had some mental problems because she was practically out of control. She went and got security but they didn't kick the Rays guy out. She eventually calmed down and that was the end of that.

A good time was had by all although I didn't climb into bed until 1:07 am.

Last night I went to The American Red Cross for CPR training. It was a 4-hour class on infant and children CPR. I'm now certified for the next year! I really wanted to learn how to do it now that I have Calleigh. Tomorrow night I go back to get certified for First Aid. I highly recommend anyone to go to this training. The two nights came to $55 and I think it's worth it when you think that you could save someones life. I'm sure the Red Cross does the training in all cities.

Calleigh is doing fine. She had Daddy put her to bed the last two night since I was gone and all went well. I wanted to wake her up both nights when I got home and just squeeze her but obv'iously that wasn't an option. Tonight we had pizza night (minus Shannon who is studying for a test tomorrow) and Calleigh did something cute for us. Duncan wasn't home yet but Megan and David were here. I had the TV on to entertain them while I was finishing the pizza. We were watching as Calleigh found the remote, went over to her little pink chair, moved it to a good position to be able to see the TV, picked up the remote, pointed it to the TV, and changed the channel. Clearly she had seen this done a time or two! But in all honestly, we rarely watch TV in front of her but obviously we've done it enough times for her to notice what we were doing!

I'm going to close here since I need to go ride the bike before bed. Getting exercise can be a real inconvenience!

Keep up the good work with the excerise - I am really trying too! The game looked like a blast but I am so disgusted with them right now. First place was there - just for them to grab and they choked AGAIN!! Oh well... it could still happen...

Looks like you made a friend at the ballgame who wanted to get in on the picture!

Actually, that's Ron!! I guess I didn't mention in my write-up that Ron and Elaine met us there so I can't blame you for not realizing it's him. Elaine is the one taking the picture.
