Both the nurse and doctor were quite taken with Aubree for some reason...I think because she was talking up a storm. At one point, Aubree was holding a bag with her snack in it which I told her she couldn't have during the checkup. Calleigh made a comment that Aubree couldn't have the snack and I said "Don't worry. She's just holding the bag. She's not going to eat it." To this, Aubree stated very firmly, "I AM going to eat it." The nurse started laughing and said "I can see she's your feisty one." And strangely enough, I had someone say the exact same thing to me at a yard sale today. I have never thought of Aubree in that light but maybe she is becoming more like that....just as long as you don't put her in a strange house with 30 relatives.
In the end, both the girls had to have one shot. I had played it very low key coming into the appointment saying there was a possibility of a shot and if there was one, we would go get ice cream (I wouldn't have brought it up at all but Calleigh did and I wasn't going to lie). When we found out there would be, Calleigh didn't cry or anything. She just came and hugged me with a very meek face and said "Okay, Mommy." It was really quite precious. She got it in her leg and of course, cried afterwards. Despite all that, Aubree didn't even protest when she was laid down for her shot and actually cried less afterwards than Calleigh. But tears were quickly forgotten when I laughingly reminded Calleigh how I had to get a shot on my bum bum because of baby brother. That seemed to amuse her. And yes, we did enjoy our ice cream cones that we had at 11:45 in the morning.

Thursday morning was my turn at the doctor. I'm proud to say that in the eight days since my last appointment, I only gained a pound. Phew! Everything checked out well and we could hear the heartbeat hammering away just as fast as could be. She asked me if I had any contractions and I said I've had a few here and there (definitely nothing major) so she decided to check me and said I was maybe 1 CM dilated and that not to worry, I would not be having the baby this weekend. I better not be having him next weekend either because I'm sure we won't be ready until then.
From there, it was a quick stop at Walmart (sometimes I go days without going there which is certainly a change from the old days.) and then on to Calleigh's last swimming lesson. Zoe had her retrieving rings from the bottom (with a little help getting her going) and Calleigh was quite thrilled with this accomplishment. Zoe said she was very impressed with how much she progressed over the course of the lessons and I was too. I have to say that I'm very pleased with using The Swim Squad and I highly recommend them to anyone whose kid needs lessons. Zoe was so nice at the end saying if we needed babysitting or even just one lesson, to let her know. I do feel sad that the lessons are ending, even just for the reason that Calleigh takes a nap after every one! But seriously, I would love to continue but the price is a little too steep for that. But we'll see how things go.

Once yard sales wrapped up, we picked up Duncan who got out of work early for the holiday weekend, and headed down to Ikea with the goal of purchasing a new dresser to put in the girls' room. Duncan wanted to get that part out of the way. We ended up eating lunch there too in the cafeteria which is very reasonably priced, as you can imagine. The girls were in seventh heaven because there were little tables and chairs in the cafe for them to sit in and they were right in front of a TV. Nothing like getting to watch cartoons while you're having lunch! Afterwards we strolled through part of the store and they had a grand time trying out all the different kid beds. We had slight problem leaving because I had made the mistake in mentioning that there was a kid's section to Calleigh (it's a play section where you can leave your potty-trained kid while you shop) but then we didn't have time in the end. Oops. We did find our dresser so Duncan and I were at least happy!

After naps, Duncan took the girls over for a swim while I went to Publix. Calleigh was very excited to show Daddy her new skills. Not to be left out, Aubree shouted exuberantly, "I'm going to put my feet in!!" She's at least passionate about that. When they got back, I asked Aubree how it went and she got this look on her face and said "I scary because Daddy took me swimming." So she ended up putting in more than her feet. Duncan said he actually had her getting rings in the deep end while he was holding her. She would grab it in the water as soon as he let it go. At least she's getting involved and getting more used to it.
In closing, I just wanted to mention a very sad thing that happened at the hospital last night a little after 5 pm. One of our transplant doctors was shot and killed in the parking garage apparently by a disgruntled patient who then killed himself. This was in our newest parking garage, the same one that David parks in every day. In fact, he told Duncan he had left there about 30 minutes previously. It's also across from the building that I worked in. They don't the motive yet. When I was at a yard sale today, the lady running it mentioned something about the hospital and I mentioned the shooting to her. It turns out she's a nurse there and knew the doctor quite well and said he was a wonderful, wonderful person and doctor and had five kids. It just makes you feel all the worse. A horrible tragedy.
To end on a more positive note, here are a few pictures from last weekend that Duncan took on his phone.

This question may come as a shock since it is from me, but how do you get borders around your pictures in Blogger and also the ability to have captions underneath??
1 cm dilated!!! You better not go into labor! Sorry to hear about the doctor. That is just horrible.
Hey, we blew it when you were young & had terrible, terrible fits when you went to the pediatrician--we should have offered you ice cream!
Love,
Papa
