Making Progress
So Aubree appears to be making some progress with the walking. She's at least now standing for very long periods of time and in fact, took a step on Wednesday before she went back to a crawling position. When you stand her up, she gets so excited and is all smiley and will just stand there sometimes even clapping her hands. We try to get her to walk to us but she ultimately goes back to a crawl to get to us. When she was in the tub last night, she even stood herself up without hanging onto the side. The one place she SHOULDN'T be standing up and she goes and does it. She was so proud I didn't have the heart so sit her back down. So I feel like it's imminent that something could happen soon with the walking but you never know with these things.
The other big news for Aubree is she's graduated to a forward facing car seat. She's a few ounces shy of the 20 pound mark but we're so close and I found a great car seat at a yard sale on Friday, that we couldn't resist. I was apprehensive about buying a used car seat since "they" tell you not to due to recalls and the fact that the car seat could have been in an accident. However, the seller assured me it was not in an accident and I've checked out the recalls and I think we're in the clear. I've wanted one of the nicer car seats with an easy recline lever and more padding but haven't wanted to pay the big bucks. As it turns out, I happened upon one at the first yard sale I hit up on Friday and got it for $40 (compared to $150 - $200). My thought is that we would hold off on the conversion until we go to Nova Scotia but Duncan wanted to try it out this afternoon and since Aubree seems so comfortable and happy in it, I don't think we're going back.
As far as the last half of the week went...Wednesday found us at the ABC stocking up on our veggie food. They're still having a "campmeeting" sale on many of the cases so we got some essentials and then I discovered a deep freezer that had a bunch of Kashi pizzas and frozen meals for ridiculously cheap prices. A whole vegetable pizza was only $2.47 and I saw the exact same one at Walmart for $5.25 the next day. We had it tonight for supper and I thought it was quite good so maybe I need to go back and buy a few more!
Thursday was Walmart day as usual and then Ron and Elaine popped over for a visit in the evening. They were very excited because they are the proud new owners of some road bikes. They've been using off road bikes (I'm sure that's now what they're called but Duncan is downstairs doing his P90X workout so I can't ask him for clarification) for years and they finally got the road bikes. They ride more than 100 miles a week so it's definitely a good investment for them.
Friday was yard sales, as I mentioned as is the usual, and Elaine joined us for the second half of the morning. I've been hunting for two suitcases, one of which I found a few weeks ago, and now two CD players for the girls respective rooms. Apparently the lifespan of a clock radio/CD player is very short since we have three in our house and none of them work any more. Calleigh's just went out on Thursday night. Granted, the reason the one in Aubree's room doesn't work is because Calleigh dumped powder into it. So we happen upon this yard sale and we're browsing and Elaine and I spot these great black Samsonite suitcases. In fact, they are very similar to the red Samsonite suitcases we have. We try out the zipper, works great. The suitcases are in very suitable condition and I was just about to go ask the guy how much the bigger one was when a lady comes over and says "These are mine." Turns out she had just bought both of them for $6 total. I was crushed! What horrible timing. I told Elaine she must be bad luck because the same thing happened a while back with an awesome cooler on wheels (can't remember if I told that story on here). Anyway, we didn't see any suitcases for the rest of the day but hopefully I'll find one next week although Duncan may be making other packing arrangements as it turns out.
In other news, I've noted something new with Calleigh this week. You know how many kids are afraid of the boogie man? Well, for Calleigh it's grinches. Recently she wanted to get something upstairs in her room and I said to go up and get it. I mean, she usually goes upstairs by herself without a second thought. This time she tells me "No, there's a grinch up there. I don't want him to get me." I'm sure she got this whole grinch thing from reading "The Grinch" during Christmas but it's not like we've even read the book since then. I don't know why it's just now becoming an issue. But she's mentioned grinches several times this week. Last night when she was in bed she said she needed to go potty and I asked her if that was the truth or a lie (she had just gone a few minutes prior so I was very suspicious). I said if it turned out to be a lie there would be a punishment. I would have to close the door to her room. She said, "No, I don't want the grinches to get me." Turns out she decided she didn't have to go to the bathroom after all but I thought it interesting about the grinch thing again.
In closing, a Calleigh comment. I've mentioned that Calleigh likes to hear stories. She's always asking things like "Tell me a story from when you were a little girl" or "Tell me a story from when we went to Animal Kingdom." I even went through a whole slew of stories from when I was a waitress at Friendly's. So now she says to me "Tell me a story from when you were a mattress at Friendly's." Even though I say it's waitress she can't quite seem to remember that word because she says mattress every time.
I can't believe I let popcorn into my house. Duncan and I are so NOT fans but I knew Calleigh liked it so I bought some. Both girls love it!
Yay! Daddy's home from work!
It's so hard to time outs for Calleigh because inevitably, Aubree goes over and starts hugging her every time.

Awwww... the pic of Duncan hugging the 2 girls is so sweet. It brought tears to my eyes. My little brother is a such a great daddy.
I am so glad to hear that popcorn has been introduced into your home for those girls! I love your blogs and of course the pictures. Keep up the good work. Toni
