Boot, Scoot, 'n Boogie

Some time last week, Duncan apparently convinced Calleigh that her name is Boot, Scoot, 'n Boogie.  Since then, Calleigh has told everyone who has asked her her name, that it's Boot, Scoot, 'n Boogie.  They kind of all look at me very curiously as if to ask, who is this strange child?  Or I suppose, in this day and age, it's always possible that someone really named their kid that so maybe they think I'M the strange one.  I assure them that her name is actually Calleigh but then Calleigh flips out and INSISTS that her name is Boot, Scoot, 'n Boogie.  So thanks a lot Duncan.  I know it's a phase but it has stuck around a little longer than it seems it should.

Wednesday morning we had a trip to my OB/GYN for an annual ladies exam as I described it to Calleigh.  This time I was mindful of positioning the girls in a place where they weren't watching what the doctor was doing.  It's quite an eyeful I'm sure.  It's funny because I barely remember anything about my mother being pregnant with Shawn, which is a little strange because I'm 5.5 years older, but the one thing I do remember is sitting on the floor against the wall with Ricky as my mother was examined by the doctor.  Just so I'm clear, this was a yearly exam.  I was NOT there due to pregnancy.  And yes, when I was using the bathroom upon being called back, I could hear through the door Calleigh telling the nurse that her name was Boot, Scoot, 'n Boogie.  The whole visit was fantastic though.  In and out in 22 minutes!

We had a lot more time on our hands then I thought we would so we had plenty of time to go over to Phelps Park.  The playground is very well shaded so it's survivable there despite the heat.  I met a very nice lady, Tammy, who has lived in Rome for the last three years working for Campus Crusades for Christ along with her husband.  She had three sons and a daughter and the daughter, Lily who was seven, was very taken with Aubree.  She walked Aubree all over the playground and stayed by her side the whole time.  It was quite nice actually!   Anyway, we had a nice discussion about living in Italy and how it is working in an environment that is predominately Catholic, obviously.  One of the interesting things she told me about the Italian school system is that they give the kids a bunch of homework to do during the summer.  I don't know, maybe they do that here now too but I never remember that as a kid.

Friday was a good day of yard sales and I was so excited to be able to buy baby Edwards HIS first bit of clothes.  Yes, Alison and Heath finally had their ultrasound on Wednesday and we got the news that they're having a boy.  I was so not surprised.  Somehow I knew she was going to say boy.  That seems to work out really well since Camden will have a companion.  And with Marcela and Jonathan having a girl, we want to try to keep things as even as possible.

Friday night we had David, Yully, and Megan over for dinner.  I was so excited to see the newlyweds as we haven't talked to them since the wedding.  The got back very late Monday night from their trip to Europe.  It was a pretty amusing story actually.  Due to a series of events and the fact that they were flying standby because of a friend they have the works for the airline, the route they had to take back was Barcelona-Paris-Minneapolis-Jacksonville rather than Barcelona-Atlanta-Orlando.  Needless to say, they definitely made a memory!  And you must ask them about Yully's car.  I won't mention it here since it's not my story.

We had a great Sabbath today.  After Sabbath School we went to Aunt Wanda's house for lunch and she had whipped up one of her usual good meals and I, as usual, probably ate too much of it.  Calleigh found some dolls in the spare bedroom and she had a very good time playing.  She clearly enjoyed the visit since her prayer before bed tonight went like this "Dear Jesus, thank you that we could go to Aunt Wanda's for breakfast (she still gets her meals mixed up).  And thank you that Wanda is so, so precious.  Amen."

After nap time we were going to go visit my friend Wanda who recently had a baby, Noah, but the girls seem to be suffering from a few minor sniffles but enough that I wouldn't want them near a newborn.  So that plan is tabled until later in the week.

Last posting I mentioned how Calleigh has taken over the ottoman as her bed.  That's still happening but her new big thing is taking all the cushions, pillows, and blankets off the couch and calling it her house.  The good thing is that Aubree loves it too and she crawls all over the cushions and laughs.  It makes me happy because Calleigh genuinely seems to enjoy playing with Aubree in her "house."  After Calleigh finished supper today and Aubree was still in her highchair, she asked me "When is my sister going to be done so I can play with her?"  I do hope they'll be good friends and not the kind of sisters that fight all the time.  Or is that one and the same?

"Hehehe, I've got her Barbies.  I'll hide them here and she'll never find them."

Aubree really hasn't made much more progress in the walking department.  Now I'm starting to get a little worried that she won't be walking by Nova Scotia which is only 2 1/2 weeks away.  It would be so much nicer if she were.  On the other hand, she really is trying to say a lot of words.  She definitely has "Hi" down pat and I'm tempted to say that's the first word besides "Da da" and "Mama".  Besides "duck" and "fish" that I mentioned before (again, they aren't completely clear so I'm not sure if I should count it) she's been saying the words "eyes," "teeth," and "chest" when you point to those body parts.  She's been learning a lot of the parts and now can point to fingers, toes, hair, eyes, ears, nose, tongue, teeth, belly, and chest.

One of the things we've been trying to teach Calleigh for awhile now is the difference between the truth and a lie.  This usually comes up when she's in bed and says she has to go potty and then nothing happens once she's situated on said potty.  But it also came up this week.  The people that we met at the playground on Wednesday had a son named Ethan.  Well, one of our friends at Sabbath School has a son named Ethan.  I'm certain that Calleigh has run into people with the same name before but for some reason, this time it really set her off.  When we came back from the playground and she asked about everybody's names (she's very much into names.  Don't be surprised if she asks you what your middle name, last name, first name is many, many times) and I mentioned Ethan, she burst out with "No, no that's a LIE. His name is NOT Ethan."  Every time she asked what his name was and I said Ethan she kept responding in the same way and was so adamant.  I explained that some people have the same name but the whole thing seemed disturbing to her.  In case you're wondering, I'm certain the name was Ethan so it's not like she was correcting my faulty memory.

I think that's all I have so I'll call it a night.

We had started a tradition that they get to share a creamsicle when we go on our afternoon walk.  But it's gotten so messy that I think the tradition may be over.
