Stir Crazy

Ahhhhhhh!  That was me screaming softly in my head this afternoon when neither of the girls took a nap and Aubree pinched/hit/kicked/bit/looked wrong at Calleigh for what seemed like the 50th time.  I think we were all feeling stir crazy.  I've had a cough for what seems like forever.  Nothing else...just a cough.  It seems like it's something going around.  Well, the girls seemed to have caught the same thing and a little more (no fevers, fortunately) so we've stuck around home the last few days.  It's usually not that bad but sometimes it really has its moments.  Such at this afternoon when due to limited activity, neither was tired for a nap.  I wish I could have said the same.  I felt SO tired but alas, a nap was not to be.  Instead I was subjected to them harassing each other.  And honestly, despite her little smile and cherubic face, Aubree is the primary instigator in all of it.  Oh how I wish I could have just turned on the TV and said "Here, you watch something while I take a snooze."  But I stood firm.  Fortunately, I have a wonderful husband who came home, ate a quick supper, and whisked the girls away to Grandma and Grandpa's house so I could have some silence.  Bliss!

Sunday was a strange day in that we had no plans.  It has been a long time since something wasn't going on.  We did our usual First Watch (sans grandparents since Elaine had gotten an ear infection), walked around the Lake Lily for a little bit, and then hit up Publix.  During Aubree's nap time, Calleigh helped Duncan scrub the kitchen floors (see, I told you I had a great husband!).  We had attempted to get Calleigh to take a nap but as per pretty much the usual, it was a no go.  When we had put her in her room, I had gone down to my room for an unofficial nap.  I was just resting for a few minutes.  Eventually Calleigh came in my room and saw my clock.  Let me back up a minute...In something that I suppose you could say is somewhat dishonest, I had set the clock in their room back about 20 minutes.  The reason for this is that when I put the girls "down" for their naps at 2:00, I tell Calleigh she can come downstairs when the (digital) clock starts with a three.  Well, as it sometimes goes, they don't get down for a nap until 2:15 on some occasions.  Since I want her to have at least an hour of quiet time (and because I know I can't tell her, "Come down after 3:15"), I put the clock back.   So Calleigh comes into my room, looks at my clock, and says "Hey, why is your clock on the 3???"  It was 3:05 but the clock in her room only said 2:45.  Ah yes.  She had found me out!

Monday morning our excitement was going to Babies R Us to get our new baby monitor.  Our old one just isn't functional anymore and the technology that has come out over the last four years is pretty neat.  This one allows you to pan, scan, and zoom around the room.  You can also talk through it to your kid.  That's a feature that will probably come in handy in Nova Scotia when the girls are in our little cabin.  The other thing I'm happy about is that the camera also has a rechargeable battery so you don't have to have a wire attached to it (a choking hazard).  Now, all these features don't come cheap but I had a coupon and then several gift cards so our our of pocket was nowhere near the sticker price.  We haven't actually used the camera yet as Brady and I are still sleeping downstairs but we'll definitely need in Nova Scotia if not before.

Yesterday was one of the days that we didn't go anywhere at all.  I didn't leave the house even to get the mail.   That gave us some time in the morning to start trying on some clothes.  The girls haven't worn pants or long sleeves since March when we were in Maine so I needed them to try on their 2T and 5T stuff to see what fits and what doesn't.  Only two weeks until we leave for Nova Scotia and I don't want to wait until the last minute.  Aubree was pretty uncooperative with the whole operation so I had to bribe her with her binky.  Calleigh cooperated not at all so we'll have to deal with that another day.

Brady is still in the same pattern of about five hours during the night.  That would be all well and good but the girls have been waking up randomly too.  Last night was good but Monday night I had the trifecta.  I think I got to bed around 11:30ish.  At 3:30, Aubree started crying for her binky that had fallen out of her crib.  I got up to get it for her and then for a little bit, I didn't think she was going to back to sleep peacefully. She wanted me to stay but I finally convinced her I needed to go back downstairs.  I looked at Brady and he was still sleeping and I was wondering if I should just wake him and feed him and be done with that but decided not to.  So at 4:30, he woke up and so I was awake until about 5:00.  At 5:30, Calleigh comes to the top of the stairs to say it was scary up there and that she had a bad dream (it was about bears.  It seems her dreams are usually about bears or lions).  She didn't want to go back into her bed by herself so my resolution was to stick her in with Duncan (since he had a lot of extra room).  Back to the couch for me where I finally fell back asleep and then back up at 7:00 to feed Brady again.  It's odd for the girls to wake up at all during the night so hopefully this is a passing thing..

A couple of other little things with Calleigh...a few days ago I told her to go get herself dressed.  She comes trotting into my room wearing her shirt that says "Big Trouble Comes in Small Packages."  This was a t-shirt that someone gave her from a yard sale.  I didn't think much of it before but if you watched any of the Casey Anthony trial, you may recall that this was the slogan on the shirt that Caylee was found in.  At least, only the letters for "Big Trouble" were found.  Needless to say, it was a little disconcerting to see Calleigh wearing the same shirt.  I told her to go change and when she wouldn't, I had to explain (after I told her what it said), that I didn't like what it said and that's why I wanted her to change.  She looked at me, as if I was being silly, and said "It's just a joke."  So it is, I guess.  Nonetheless, the shirt came off.

The other thing with Calleigh has to do with the show House Hunters.  Even though the girls don't watch kids programming here at home, we do watch some House Hunters while I'm nursing Brady.  Not every time but usually about once a day.  We're seriously addicted to the show and we even now have Calleigh and Aubree sticking out their fingers as to which one the people will pick.  In fact, the other day, when the show came on, Aubree immediately says to me "When are we going to vote?"  Except, it sounded like she said "fart" instead of "vote" and it threw me off for a little bit.  At any rate, we were doing something in Calleigh's room and she randomly says to me, "I think people would really like our house.  I think they would like the closets."  Yup, we're addicted to the show.

The girls have come up with a cute nickname for Brady.  A mix of his real name, and what they call him so often, Baby Brother.  The name is Brady Brother.  We'll see if it sticks!  It's either that or "Tom Brady" as Camden calls him.

We've gotten two new Grodack relatives in the last few weeks.  Duncan's sister Angela married her boyfriend Chuck and Duncan's brother Russ (the one who lives here), married his girlfriend Saray.  Both went to JP's and surprised us all.  Now all five Grodack siblings are married.  Welcome to the family Chuck and Saray!

Have a nice rest of the week.  Hopefully when I write again, we'll all be in good health.

Dewey's many stitches.
