She Crawls!
The day has finally come. After nearly twelve months of life, Aubree officially crawls. What a special Mother's Day treat! Interestingly enough, Calleigh started walking on Father's Day so I guess these specific holidays are pretty special occasions in their lives. Aubree has been on the cusp for the last few days but it finally all came together. It's started off slowly, I don't think she understands what she can do with this new freedom, but today she's taken off even more. I found her under the kiddie table this afternoon playing with some toys and then a few moments later, she was admiring the air freshener plugged into the outlet. That's when I thought, darn, we're going to have to baby proof again. Calleigh has been enjoying it as well although I have to keep a very close eye on her. She's been trying to pick Aubree up to help her walk and that usually doesn't end well.
Besides the crawling, the rest of Mother's Day was wonderful. We had an early morning trip to First Watch and then took off for the Magic Kingdom from there. It was the last of our Disney parks. This one was a lot different in that it was very warm and it didn't rain. That was a welcome relief. We hit up just about all the kiddie rides and called it a day a little after one o'clock. Fortunately there weren't many long lines. Calleigh enjoyed herself except for one incident at the end. First off, as I mentioned in the details on Hollywood Studios, Calleigh likes to meet the characters whether she knows them or not. This time she did know Donald Duck and was so cute getting her picture taken with him. We didn't see any other characters until the end of our day when we met Mickey in the kids section. As we waited in line, Calleigh tells me that she wants to touch Mickey's eye. Why? I have no idea. So she gives Mickey a hug and then she reaches up and touches his eye which is obviously just made of plastic or whatever (although I assume the actual person looks through that hole). Mickey pretends that he just got his eye poked and the next thing you know, Calleigh is bawling. We took that as our cue to leave the park.
Right after this, she poked his eye.
Can you see her face? She's all upset.
We waited to get into the car to have lunch. I told Duncan it was in his best interest that they not fall asleep in the car since I was going to go out shopping when we get home. They did stay awake but then went right to sleep when we get back. And then I was off to shop by myself for a few hours. A special Mother's Day treat! It wasn't as relaxing as I hoped since I was on a mission to find a dress for Devin & Leigh's wedding this weekend. Unfortunately just about everything out there is sleeveless and I don't know that the weather is going to be all that warm in New Hampshire but what are you going to do. When I got home, a lovely plant and a giant card were waiting for me. Calleigh had picked out the plant and card herself and Duncan had the girls use the stamp pad to "sign" the card with their hand prints. What a neat idea. Then we zipped over to Ron and Elaine's for dinner with Aunt Wanda joining us. Calleigh insisted on going swimming again so Duncan took her for a dip after dinner. The day would have been perfect if the team I was routing for on the Amazing Race had been victorious but at least the team I strongly didn't want to win, didn't. Here's a message to Caite: Being in the race definitely did NOT help your reputation. You may want to shelve the phrase, "I just want to punch you in the face right now."
Well, I did something that I thought I would never do in the state of Florida. I actually went into a lake. We found a new park, Downey Park on East Colonial Drive, that has a lake with a beach, a big splash playground, a regular playground, and tons of picnic tables. I am quite apprehensive about going into any body of water in this state other than the ocean due to the alligator population but they had a little roped off swimming area so I figured it was okay....although we stayed very close to shore just to be sure. The water was like being in the bathtub.
The legs are getting a little chunky. And Aubree's are getting bigger too. Ha ha!
Speaking of reptiles, I noticed a snake skin next to the walkway from our driveway to the front door. I know there are snakes around but I try not to think of it. This made me think of it. Yikes!
