I have a bunch of work to do so I don't have time today to catch up on this past week's events, including the trip to Michigan, but I at least wanted to do a short post on Calleigh's first swimming lesson today. I can describe it by saying it could have been better but it could have been worse. First off, it was hot as blazes. It's in the 90's and I had sweat pouring off me. Poor Aubree strapped on front. Actually, I think she enjoyed watching all the kids horsing around. Anyway, there are five other kids in Calleigh's little group. Three of them have taken previous lessons and three haven't. You could tell the "have not's" right away because they were the ones crying. Yes, Calleigh shed a few tears. It took some urging to get her into the water but she didn't resist once she was in there and she didn't cry hysterically like one of the boys. So that was good at least! Honestly, I don't think she was concerned about the water. It was more an issue of not knowing the teacher and being in the strange environment. When we were done, I asked her why she was crying and she said "Because I wanted that toy." About halfway through the lesson, she discovered a box of pool toys and had asked to play with one...obviously I said no. As for the lesson itself, the kids all sit on the side of the pool (sans a life preserver of any kind) and the teacher takes them one by one into the water to do different things. The first time it's to kick their legs, then it's to float on a device, then to go on their back, etc. Obviously the amount of time the teacher devotes to each child is fairly small (30 minutes divided by 6 kids) so I'm not sure what the result of 8 lessons (7 in our case because we'll be gone for one) will be but time will tell.
I hope to write more tomorrow but in the meantime, I need to work on the capital budget.
