Today Aubree turned six months old which meant it was time for a visit to the pediatrician. Duncan's sister's, Angie, and her boyfriend Chuck are in town visiting from Baltimore so I was able to leave Calleigh with her at Ron & Elaine's while I went. All went well for the most part. We actually saw a nurse practitioner this time and she did make the observation that Aubree has a bit of a flat head on the right side. As soon as she said it, I noticed it. I'm quite surprised actually as it seems like she is always sleeping with her head turned to the left. Anyway, there isn't anything they can do about it at this point but if were to get worse, they may have to put a helmet on her or something. Poor dear. It's really not that bad though and once she gets some hair growing in, I'm sure it really won't be noticeable at all. Here are her measurements and the comparison to Calleigh:
Aubree Calleigh
Weight 14 lbs, 8 oz (25th) 14 lbs, 5 oz
Length 25 3/4 inches (50th) 25 1/2 inches
Head 17 inches (75th) 17 inches
As you can see, she's just slightly larger than Calleigh. She got a couple of shots including the seasonal flu. I ended up getting the seasonal flu nasal spray. I could have gotten the shot for free at the hospital but it's such a pain to try to find the time to drive there, drag the kids inside, etc. and plus, I avoid shots when I can so I decided to pony up the $45 and be done with it.
We've had some interesting things happening this week. The first is that we got an invitation to the Florida Hospital Gala which is a black tie fundraiser event held at the Coronado Springs Hotel at Disney. We went to it three years ago (pre kids) and hold an enjoyable time especially since Jerry Seinfeld was performing. This year it's Jennifer Hudson who is one of my very favorite singers. I was completely appalled when she was voted out of American Idol some odd years ago so I feel quite smug thinking about how I loved her before she because famous. And now I'll get to see her in person! Of course, I didn't think it was going to work out because of the little Aubree bottle situation in that she doesn't really care for the bottle. But I pumped a few days ago and gave her one (first time since Nova Scotia) and she gulped it right down with no problems so I think we're good to go. I'll have to pump a few more times, which I hate doing, to get a bottle for her but all for a good cause. Ron & Elaine will come over to babysit. It's happening Sunday night by the way. So really, this only left one problem which was finding a dress. My dress from three years ago fit (thank goodness since I was about 4 months pregnant when I wore it then!) but something just wasn't right about it so I ended up getting a new one for $20 at a consignment store. And in my regular size from pre-baby I might add!
Another bit of news happened Tuesday afternoon during nap time. Calleigh was being her usual loud self, reading books and yakking until she gets tired. I noticed that it suddenly got very quiet up there so I thought, "Hmm, maybe she just fell asleep although it was very sudden." I heard what sounded like a door making a sound and I looked around to see if one of the dogs had gotten stuck in the bathroom or something but they were both on the couch. So I decided to creep up the stairs to see if something happened up there. As I softly walk up the stairs, I see this little shadow on the back wall that looks remarkably like that of a two and half year old. Sure enough, I hear this scream and then she takes off running as fast as she can for my closet to hide. So yeah, she had gotten out of her crib! On the day she turned two and half to boot. I really would have expected her to come to the top of the stair and announce to me that she had gotten out of her crib so I was greatly surprised when she ended up trying to be sneaky. Clearly she knew she wasn't supposed to be doing that. I threatened her with taking everything out of her crib and closing her door if she did it again and so far, we haven't had another occurrence. Thank goodness! I don't want to think about what we'll do if this becomes an issue. She's definitely not one of those kids that goes to sleep quickly so I'm imagining her trying to run in and out of her room for hours each night before settling in. In fact, here's a picture of how I found her at 9:30 this evening. She had apparently reached through her crib bars, grabbed this skirt off the floor and decided to play dress up with it. We were none the wiser until Duncan happened to walk by her room and noticed her walking around in her crib like this. Might I add that this skirt is a size 12 months that I had bought at a yard sale for Aubree to wear some day. But Calleigh said it was a "twirly" skirt and has managed to squeeze herself into it on many occasions so she can twirl around.
As I said previously, Chuck and Angela are down from Baltimore for Chuck to attend a conference and also to visit. Yesterday I went to the Finance Thanksgiving luncheon with Aubree while Chuck, Ang, and Elaine took Calleigh with them to Sea World. They had a grand time with very few lines. When they got back here, Calleigh said she needed to go to the bathroom. It turns out that she didn't actually do anything in there but she did come trotting out to the living room buck naked with her dress curled up in a ball under her arm and holding onto her diaper with her other hand. We threw the dress back on her but left the diaper off. A little while later, we see her disappear back into the bathroom without a word to us - - or us to her. We hear a little grunting and then she comes running out shouting "I did poo poo in the potty!" And lo and behold, she had! That was the first time. And it was an impressive job I must say. We had promised her an ice cream cone for that and even though it was 8 pm and I hate to give it to her at that time of night, just before bed time, we kept our word. Tonight she went in her diaper again but that's okay. I'm really playing this low key at the moment.
I can't think of too much else to report other than that Aubree sat in a high chair for the first time. She's getting better and better at sitting up by herself so we thought it was more than time to give the highchair a try at Grandma and Grandpa's. She seemed to enjoy the new view. I haven't started solids with her yet...thinking about maybe starting after Thanksgiving. It just adds more work once they start and really, it's not like she absolutely needs it yet anyway. So we'll see.
"The Office" awaits me so I'll leave off here. Good night.
