My Little Lefty

I'm CONVINCED that Aubree is going to be a lefty! I don't know if I've mentioned it on her before but a family friend, a nurse who works with children, told me that you can tell what hand a baby will favor just based on the side of their head that their swirl (the back of the head where the hair swirls around) is on. It's something to do with the swirl developing on the same side of the head as the dominant side of the brain. So if the swirl is on the right, your child is right brained and thus left handed. I have no idea if that's really true or not but it seems to be accurate for every person's swirl that I look at. Calleigh's was on the left side and she's right handed. Aubree's is most definitely on the right so that's a positive sign. Then tonight, she picked up a spoon for the first time and it stayed in her left hand the whole time. Obviously it's a little too soon to tell for sure at her young age but I don't need any more proof! I really think I'm going to get my lefty kid. Now if she could just have red hair we'd be golden!

As you can see by my lack of posts, it's been busy. Obviously a good portion of that had to do with my mother being here. My exercise regimen suffered greatly too. But I think I'm back on track. Anyway, we had a great time as was expected. On Thursday (which was now a week ago Thursday) we went to Green Meadows Petting Farm in Kissimmee. It was a neat experience even for adults. I learned so much. Who knew that a male Ostrich is sterile until he's in his 20's?? Really great stuff! We were going to go to the MacDougall's in Bradenton to go out on their boat on Sunday but because of Ida, it was too windy so we had to cancel those plans. It ended up being nice to just relax and watch the football game. Aunt Shirley came up on Sabbath and we had her, Aunt Wanda, David, and Yully over for lunch - - my mom made a feast. All in all, it was a nice but short time with my mom. She left Monday morning at 6. So yes, it was a very early morning ride to the airport.

But one of the big things from my mother's visit was Calleigh getting some underwear! They went to Walmart together and somehow it came about that Calleigh became the proud owner of Dora panties. Now, I haven't been pushing or even really trying much on the potty training front because frankly, I just haven't had the energy to do so. But furthermore, I don't know if she's really ready yet. I read that it can take a day to train them but you have to pick the right day. One of the big signs is that they want to be clean - - they hate having poop or pee in their diaper. Most of the time she'll tell me if she's got a # 2 but some of the time she doesn't even want me to change it. So I really haven't thought she's been ready just yet. Well, she was pretty excited about the panties and of course, had to wear them right away and show them off to anyone who would look at her. So late Sabbath afternoon we're all sitting around and Calleigh gets her potty out from the bathroom and sits it in the middle of the living room, takes down her panties, and sits down. She sits there for like 10 minutes and pretty soon we're all oblivious to what she's doing. Aunt Shirley says that she thought she heard something but we absently remarked that we thought it was the kitchen sink. But then Calleigh jumps up and proclaims that she went pee and sure enough, there's a big puddle of pee in her potty! She then becomes the proud recipient of a Popsicle. Since then, we haven't pushed the potty. We just mention it now and then and every once in a while she decides to do something. We were at Yully's tonight and just as we're about to leave, Calleigh says she has to pee so Duncan takes her in to the bathroom, puts her on the big toilet, and she goes. So who knows. I did buy ice cream and cones and told her if she can go # 2 in the potty she would get that as a treat. We'll see what develops!

Aubree seems to be growing by leaps and bounds. Not necessarily in size, although that's growing too, but in her development. She's definitely reached the stage where they want to touch and grab everything. Anything she can get her hands on, she's all about it. I was nursing her the other day and as is the usual, I had my red plastic cup with my water. I went take a sip and in the blink of an eye, Aubree grabs it and it spilled all over my front and leg. It's quite a shock to the system to get doused with ice cold water when you aren't expecting it. Somehow it didn't land on her thankfully. She's also getting better and better every day with her sitting up. I definitely wouldn't leave her unattended sitting up but she can keep herself upright for close to a minute now. Yay! But the even BIGGER news for me is that she is now taking a longer nap in the afternoons on a consistent basis. The key is that she hasn't been falling asleep in the car around 12:30 when we're coming back from wherever we've been for our morning outing. I put her down at 2:15 and she's been sleeping for about 1.5 to 2 hours. It is such a treat. Both my girls taking long naps at the same time! A real treat would be if I was also taking a nap at that time but I'm on the clock.

So a little anecdote about me...I've had my phone for three years now and when I got it, I had to take a lot of ribbing about my giant phone. But I purposely got a military grade phone because it's very durable and also waterproof. And it's been dropped on the floor dozens and dozens of times so I know that part has been true. Well, I was in the bathroom at Sweet Tomatoes while my mom was here and I reached in my bag to get my changing mat to change Aubree's diaper and all of a sudden I heard a splash and a plop and what do I see buy my cell phone sinking to the bottom of the (CLEAN) toilet bowl. Well...I am proud to report that the info about the phone being waterproof is indeed true! The sound was a little off for a few hours but she's been running like new since then. So I consider myself to have the last laugh on all the people who laughed at me!

I said my workout routine had suffered a little while my Mom was here but I'm back on the horse so to speak. The key is to stay motivated even though I'm practically at my weight goal. I weighed myself last week and I only have one pound to go to get to pre-Aubree weight and five to get to pre-Calleigh weight. But even better, I finally fit into all my old clothes. It's like Christmas came early! I suddenly have this big wardrobe again at my disposal. Happy times. But I know this isn't the end. I need to keep it up. I'm just about to finish Week 8 of 12.

Well, I'm going to end here. I'm sure there is so much more to say that I'm not remembering but that will have to wait for another day. Can't be up too late because I have to teach Sabbath School in the morning!
