Flying Underwear

Hanging out in the "tent" you'll see mentioned below.
Your kids can really make you laugh with their crazy antics.  We had a really good chuckle the other night with Calleigh's newest adventure.  Calleigh was in her room for the evening, but as usual, not actually sleeping quite yet.  I was on the phone so she called down for Duncan to come up because she had to show him something.  Of course, the proper response would be to just tell her she needed to be quiet and go to sleep but Duncan was a bit intrigued so up he went.  When he got in her room, she was standing on her futon and she says to him "Daddy, I want to show you this really cool thing I can do with my underwear."  She then proceeds to toss the underwear up really high into the air, directly into the ceiling fan, and then laughed as the undies hit the fan and went flying across the room.  Apparently she had been doing this "trick" for quite some time.  Duncan showed the appropriate amount of disapproval, even though he was laughing on the inside, and explained that it was possible that the undies could break the fan and send it crashing to the floor.  I think that got her attention and put an end to the undies toss.  Ahhh, what kids will do when they have some free time on their hands!

Wednesday morning I had a doctor's appointment to commemorate 31 weeks.  I was going to take the girls but then Yolanda and Emma ended up coming over which did turn out to be very nice because I was waiting for at least 45 minutes to see the doctor.  It gets a little frustrating because you see the doctor for what, all of four minutes, but have to wait that long.  I guess that's just the nature of the business though.  For my weigh-in, I'm up to about 24 pounds of weight gain so with eight weeks to go, I'm still on track for 32 like I was with Aubree (at least, I think it was about that.  I guess I should check my old blogs to verify).  All was well with the baby as far as measuring my belly and hearing the heartbeat so happy times.  I've scheduled the rest of my appointments between now and the end.  Needless to say, my Wednesdays are going to be pretty busy over the remaining time.  I have to go every two weeks the next two times and then weekly starting 5/18.  Throw in a dentist visit next Wednesday and that about does it.  Anyway, I was glad the girls got some playtime while I was otherwise occupied.  I got back a little before noon and after a quick lunch, we all went to the playground for a little outdoor time too.  This all resulted in Calleigh taking a nap so I was very happy.

It's true.  Kids really CAN fall asleep in the darnedest places.  This is where I found her sleeping on Wednesday afternoon.  When I told her about it later ,she insisted that she had been awake the whole time she was in the box but when I told her she didn't budge when I came and took a picture and the flash went off, she had no response.
On Thursday, I was already depressed about missing yard sales today due a meeting at work, that I decided to hit up the Goodwill to try and get some kind of fix.  We found a few things there with the highlight being an ugly, poofy flower girl dress that Calleigh really wanted to play dress up with.  At $3, I gave in.  Afterwards, it was off to the post office to mail some coupon inserts to Alison.  Alison and I had a nice coupon chitchat on Wednesday evening and I'm very excited to see that I'm reeling her in slowly but surely.  I do think it's inevitable since we are completely kindred spirits on the whole thrift store/yard sale thing.  So this was the extent of our activities on Thursday morning/early afternoon.  And yet, Calleigh fell asleep for her nap in like 10 minutes flat.  I just don't get it.  Today she had a ton going on, exercise wise, but no nap.  I really can't make sense of it.  After naps, it was on to Walmart for a few things.  Aubree just kills me sometimes.  At times, like when I'm teaching Sabbath School and she won't leave my side, she can be so shy and bashful and clingy.  But then other times, she totally isn't.  She was in the cart but then at one point, insisted on getting out. Since I wasn't getting much, I let her down.  She grabbed hold of the side of the cart to walk beside me and then proceeded to belt out, at the top of her lungs as she swayed from side to side, "Give Me That Old Time Religion" as we walked through the store.  A guy behind us followed us for a minute or two and when the song was over commented to me that it sounded like we had a future clergywoman on our hands!

As I mentioned, I had to go into work this morning for a meeting.  I dropped the girls off at Grandma and Grandpa's house at about 9:20 and off I went.  Well, they were very kind in that they said they would keep the girls through lunch and then bring them back in time for their naps.  So I was able to go to one yard sale and one thrift store on my way home from my meeting.  That was something, at least!  The girls, meanwhile, had a splendid time in going to the nursery, playground, and then Calleigh was in the pool for a lengthy time.  And nope, it didn't result in a nap.  Just weird!

Besides the underwear theatrics, Calleigh has been up to other mischief.  Yesterday I built the girls a tent using chairs and a blanket. They quickly disappeared inside to play.  Well, I noticed that things had gotten a little quiet in there which, as any parent knows, is never a good sign.  I went over to investigate and asked what was going on in there.  Aubree pipes up "Calleigh is cutting her hair."  Sure enough, there sits Calleigh with her little play scissors and I see bits of blond hair lying on the blanket.  That's enough to give shivers to any mother of a daughter.  I prepared for the worst but fortunately, she had only gotten a couple of little clumps on each side.  It's on the part that frames her face so it's not really that bad.  Thankfully no big chunk was missing from the back or something.  Of course, I reprimanded her and told her she lost her scissor privileges.  I then proceeded to bag up the hair because, after all, she's never had a haircut and so this would go down as the first one and I wanted those lockets of hair.  Well, this really set her off.  She demanded that I not show the bag of hair to Daddy and she was very adamant about.  I don't know what she thought he would do.  When he came home from work, she immediately hid behind the coffee table and covered up her hair with her hands.  Obviously Duncan didn't do anything except to say not to do it again and so she finally removed her hands and the crises was over.  Hopefully this is the first and last haircut she gives herself.  Aubree, on the other hand, if she gave herself even the tiniest haircut, she'd be bald.  I'm convinced she has less hair than Calleigh at this age and that's not saying much.  I'll be very curious to see the head of hair the boy will have.  Probably the same but at least it's not so bad on a boy.

Here's the "lovely" flower girl dress.  It's since been stained with tomato sauce from pizza night but the dress still made an appearance today despite all that.  This is also post haircut and as you can see, all is okay.
That's a wrap on another week.  Happy Sabbath to you all!
