"I Didn't Say Hit"

Walking to the van to load up for church
Do you know how hard it is not to laugh when your kid says something completely inappropriate?  Friday we were out yard sale-ing as usual.  At our last stop, Calleigh scored a couple of baby Barbies (or, as Aubree calls them "bobbies").  As I buckled her into her car seat, she said "I'm going to hit you" as she played with the Barbies.  I told her it wasn't a nice thing to say so she was quick to assure me by saying, "I didn't say hit.  I said *hit (with the * being an 's').  I wasn't sure if I heard her right so I asked her to repeat it.  Yup, I heard her right. I so wanted to laugh.  Obviously it's a bad word but it was so funny that in her haste to assure me that she hadn't said something that wasn't nice (which I know she had despite her protests that she had used this different word), she picked an actual bad word.  At that point, I didn't want to tell her that $*#% was a really bad word, in the fear that she would then want to repeat it, so I just sort of said that we shouldn't use either of the words.  Hopefully I handled that one right.

We had a nice Sabbath yesterday.  Since Aubree doesn't nurse in the morning any more, I'm now trying to make it through the church service with her in the pew.  We've been pretty successful...a lot more so than we were with Calleigh at this age.  The other nice thing is that I have a few dresses that I haven't been able to wear because they aren't conducive to nursing but now that it's over, I've been able to bring them out of the closet..so to speak.  Although Aubree has dropped the formal morning nap, she'll often take 10 minute catnaps if we're in the car which we usually are.  On the way home from church, she was tired and kept "asking" for her binky but we must have lost it at church.  Many times she can fall asleep without it in the car but not this time.  So as we ate our lunch yesterday she kept falling asleep in her highchair.  She would come to for a second and stuff some more food in her mouth but then the eyes would close again.  I thought she was completely oblivious to what was going on but then Calleigh says "I love this macaroni and cheese" and as she gets to the word "cheese" Aubree shouts out "cheese."  It's definitely one of her favorite words.

Last night was a big night for Duncan and me.  Grandma and Grandpa offered to babysit and we were very happy to take them up on it.  We left the house about 7:30 and headed to Winter Park Village.  We had another gift card for "The Cheesecake Factory" and fortunately, we only had to wait about 10 minutes for a table since we sat outside.  Afterwards, we made a quick stop at Borders and then it was onto the theater to see a movie.  I just checked and I see that I haven't been to a movie since June of last year so it had been a while.  It's now up to $21 for two people to see a movie but we had some gift cards for that too.  Cheap date!  We saw "The Town" which is set in Boston so that added a little something special to it.  Halfway through the movie I took out the slice of cheesecake I had snuck in along with some milk I bought at Borders.   During our post movie analysis, Duncan and I both determined that it wasn't actually cheesecake.  We think they gave us the wrong thing.  Nevertheless, it was pretty good.  Part of our purpose for going out last night, besides just having an evening to enjoy each other's company, was that we were celebrating paying off our student loans.  Duncan just made our last big payment and we have now officially paid off $40,000 of student loans between the two of us.  Boy, that feels great!

Farmer's Market
Despite our late night last night (didn't get home until 12:30), we were up at our usual time this morning and off to First Watch.  Between travelling, birthday parties, and Sea World, we haven't had a free Sunday in quite some time.  Later in the morning we went to the Farmer's Market in Maitland, a couple yard sales, and then on to the mall.  Our final stop was to get a life jacket for Aubree.  We had gotten Calleigh one a few weeks ago, which she loves, and we wondered to ourselves why we didn't get one for Aubree also.  We've now rectified that.  I'm looking forward to seeing how much or how little she enjoys it.  Our final activity of the day was to watch the Patriots/Jets game.  David and Yully came over for it (Megan had another wedding up in the Boston area today) and despite the nice company, the game was pretty much a downer after the first quarter. I think Calleigh was pretty confused on the whole concept because she asked us "Why are those guys falling on the ground?"  Other than that, she kept asking when a commercial was coming on.  I suppose those are far more interesting than the game for a 3-year old.  It reminded me of my younger years specifically when I was at my grandparents house (as we had no TV at ours) and the adults would be watching 60 Minutes.  I kept waiting for that little clock to come on because that would signal commercials were coming next.  The actual show was SO boring.

Aubree watching the game....before it got ugly.

Calleigh playing with the camera during the game.
In Aubree news, she's getting two more teeth.  Her upper incisors have erupted.  This will bring her total teeth to six.  She continues to expand her vocabulary every day.  Some of the words she says so incredibly clearly like "apple."  She pretty much calls every fruit "apple" but it's as clear as a bell.  I was pretty excited at one of the yard sales when a lady said to me about Aubree "Wow, she talks so well."  That was a phrase we heard all the time with Calleigh but didn't think I would hear it with Aubree.  Of course, it then occurred to me that because Aubree is small for her age, she probably thought she was only like 10 months old!  Today she turned 16 months.

I think that's about it.  Time to hit the hay.

Catching up on the Calleighisms is the absolute best. We would all miss so much if you were not doing this blog. Thanks for the smiles and chuckles.
