We had a very busy weekend which spilled over into today. But first let me back up to where I left off in my last post.
Last Wednesday we took Aubree in for her follow-up doctor's appointment. The doc was pleased with how the cyst looked and said we could stop the antibiotic although we would have to resume if it acted up again. But more importantly, we scheduled her surgery for May 25 (her due date one year ago). She has to have general anesthesia and he said it would take 40 minutes. It will be early in the morning and she won't be able to eat or drink for four hours preceding the surgery so I'm not looking forward to that from a nursing perspective. Anyway, we know it's a pretty standard procedure but as a parent, you obviously can't help but being a little worried/nervous when your child goes under the knife.
Friday morning we did our yard sales and Elaine accompanied us. We hit the jack pot this week. Elaine got Calleigh a bicycle with training wheels, a sandbox/water box thingy for the back yard, a scooter, trucks, and I landed a bunch of clothes for Calleigh. All of this for not more than $30. The back of my van was completely loaded down. I almost got a cooler on wheels but someone bought it just as I was about to take it. It's a humorous story that I'll hold off on in the interest of time.
Friday afternoon Duncan picked Aunt Toni and Uncle Terry up at the airport because they came down to surprise Uncle Terry's parents with a party for their 60th wedding anniversary. Wow! We didn't have much time to socialize since we were off to our first event of the weekend which was a birthday party for Calleigh's friend Emma from story time. They live in Oviedo so it was just a quick drive even quicker than we expected in fact. Emma has two older sisters and there were about seven or eight other kids there. They have a great fenced in back yard so the kids were able to run all over the place. We enjoyed getting to know Emma's parents better (of course, I already knew Emma's mother, Yolanda) and found them to be very friendly and warm. They are Mormons so you could tell that we were in a Christian environment even though we obviously don't share all the same beliefs. Before the meal, Greg, the father, asked if anyone wanted to say the grace. Calleigh yelled "Me, me" and so proceeded with her standard which is "Dear Jesus. We love Mommy, Daddy, Aubree, Calleigh, and Hannah (Emma's older sister that she decided to throw in the mix). We love you Jesus, Amen." As usual, she forgot to thank him for the food. But I was quite pleased that she was eager to pray in public in front of people she mostly just met.
All the girls were lined up, trying to push their way closer to the cake and ice cream!
After our Sabbath afternoon naps, we headed over to the Isidro's out in Tampa (really Ocoee but feels like Tampa. Well, in all fairness, it feels a lot shorter now that the 429 extension is finished). They had gotten a new swing set monstrosity that we hadn't seen yet because we missed Braelyn's party (when we were at the Cape). Plus, we figured this was the last time to really visit with those guys before the twins come. The girls had a great time playing together and in fact, we have noticed that they can get quite silly together. They painted some eggs, made Smores, and chilled in the hammock. The adults had a good time too!
Some of the silliness I was talking about. They try to hug....
And this is how it ends.
Sunday morning we were off to First Watch as usual. Unfortuantely, a lot of other people had the same idea. Usually the place is mostly empty when we get there at 8:30 on a Sunday morning but because of Easter, the place was hopping. We finally got a seat but then I had to quickly depart to get to Tangie's baby shower. Incidentally, Calleigh was a little mystified about the whole baby shower thing. I finally changed it to a baby party and that was easier to understand. Why it's called a shower in the first place, I have no idea. I guess we're showering the baby with gifts? Anyway, there was plenty of food at the shower so I didn't miss out on eating. I left the girls with Duncan so I was kid free for a few hours and it was very nice. There were several other very pregnant ladies there and I'm afraid we might have scared some of them when the rest of us mothers starting sharing birthing and nursing stories! But that's what you get to do once you've popped out a kid, right??
From there, it was on to Ron and Elaine's for the Easter egg hunt and lunch. The Isidro's came over too. As we watched the girls hunt for eggs, I really couldn't help but marvel that a year has already gone by since we last did this. Time does fly. Next year, little Aubree will have her own basket (although it seems like at this rate, she'll never be walking!). This year I actually caved and put some jelly beans in a few of the eggs. I'm not into the candy/sugar thing but I figured a little would be okay (note to self, don't wait until the last minute to get your Easter stuff. Walmart was a zoo and was out of a lot of stuff, including jelly beans, on Saturday night). Another note to self is not to use blueberries and blackberries in the eggs because they make a giant purple mess. After the hunt, we had a nice lunch on the back deck. The weather has really been warming up and it was very comfortable. Not too long and we can be in the pool! By the time we got home, it was nearly 3 pm so nap time started a little late but that's okay. After the girls quickly hit the sack, I buzzed over to Thriftko for the 50% off sale.
Last night Aunt Toni & Uncle Terry returned from Avon Park so we visited a little with them as we watched the Red Sox/Yankees game to kick off the baseball season. My, how times have changed. I had a headache and I was tired so I hit the sheets well before the game was over and it didn't bother me. If you had asked me a few years ago if I could ever conceive of a time when I would not watch a Red Sox/Yankees game, I would ask you what you were smoking. But two kids later, priorities change. In fact, I didn't even get the MLB package this year. I can't believe it myself.
This morning I was up early to get Aunt Toni & Uncle Terry to the airport. After Aubree's short nap, we took off for Merrill Park in Altamonte Springs to meet some friends, Leslie, Jennifer, Crystal, and their respective kids, for a play date. We actually decided to do another little Easter egg hunt and the kids really enjoyed it. Since we mixed up all the eggs that we each brought, Calleigh was the recipient of some additional candy today. Fortunately I was able to prevent her from eating most of it. She also scored a cupcake that Jennifer had made. It was shaped like a mouse so who could resist (I know I couldn't!). Calleigh, of course, had a great time playing in the playground and with the kids although she also didn't mind just walking around by herself exploring. At one point I lost sight of her for a moment and then when I looked again, there she was walking done the hill hand in hand with one of the little boys, Isaac, who is four. I don't know that they've said a whole lot to each other at Sabbath School but apparently they bonded during the play date.
Look at the little tongue sticking out. She's like "Jackpot! Nobody is looking. Now's my chance!"
I love how she's just looking at him. This is Isaac the aforementioned hand holder.
So, I guess that gets us caught up as far as our activities. I thought this candy would be a good opportunity to try and incentivize Calleigh with using the potty. That, and the fact that she got to see Braelyn use it over the weekend. She's been wearing underwear and keeping it dry for several hours at a time but when she needs to relieve herself, she refuses to go on the potty. I told her she could have some candy but she insisted on having a diaper put on. I still haven't really been focusing on this full time but as some point, I guess I will.
Aubree has made very little progress with crawling and even standing. If you try and stand her up, she keeps her legs bent as if to say, "Nope, I'd rather sit, thank you." I will say that I did her tummy time today (for the first time in several days) and I left her there on the floor for a moment. When I looked over a short time later, she was in another area of the room so obviously she's getting around. It's just by backing up every where. That can't last forever, can it??
It's been a long day so I'm going to end here. Good night!
