You're the Next Intestine!
Last night I went up to respond to the usual holler from Calleigh, "MOMMMMYY, I HAVE POO POO!" If nothing else, she's at least consistent with when she does her business. It's usually about five to ten minutes after she gets into her crib for the night. I got her out and started changing her and she wanted to know if there was corn in the cob in it. Since we had just eaten it for supper that evening, I explained to her that it takes awhile and that the food digests, goes to the stomach, and then through the intestine, etc. So she says to me "Oh, it's like 'You're the next intestine on the Price is Right!" Thanks for the chuckle, Cal!
What have we been up to this week? Tuesday was story time at Winter Park Library (ours was on a break), Wednesday was a trip to the Orlando Science Center, Thursday was the usual Walmart, and today was our yard sales. We dodged a bullet with the Science Center. I had forgotten that I had read on their website that they are closed on Wednesdays. When I went to park in the parking garage, I saw the sign saying just that but fortunately they happened to be open because it was spring break. Phew! Calleigh was excited about going...especially to see the human body again. It was much less crowded this time around and we were often the only ones in certain areas. And as I expected, when it was time to leave, Calleigh started having a fit. I had to take Aubree out of the stroller, force a screaming Calleigh into it, clasp the buckles as she bucked all around, and then try to maneuver a stroller with one hand while carrying Aubree with the other. I knew there was a reason I should have brought in the Bjorn. Fortunately her fits are usually short lived and by the time we hit the elevator she had calmed down.
We almost had a rain out today on our yard sales excursions. I'm always watching the weather forecast several days in advance and when my widget shows rain for Friday, I always feel a little sad. This was one of those weeks but I still programmed my GPS last night with the hopes that it would hold off. When we left this morning, it was ominous but no rain. As we drove to our first stop, I kept looking out the window trying to look at the dark clouds and I was muttering that I hoped it wouldn't rain. Calleigh piped up from the back, "Why don't you check the screen?" I finally figured out that she meant the GPS. I had to explain that it only told us how to get somewhere; it did not give us the weather report. Sure enough, it did start raining but only for a few minutes and it stopped as we arrived at the destination. Out we got and another "shopper" said something to us about the weather and Calleigh goes into this long explanation (while tilting her head and laughing a little bit - - if you've ever seen her explain something you know what I mean) about how we thought it was going to rain and that Mommy was looking at the GPS but it didn't tell us anything, and then it did rain but we still came to the yard sale, etc, etc. The lady, of course, had no idea what she was talking about but was quite impressed with her conversation skills.
So Aubree hasn't taken her morning nap the last two days. Yesterday she slept in until about 7:40 and when I put her down for her nap around 9:45 she obviously just wasn't tired enough yet. She laid there for about 25 minutes (not crying or anything) and I finally decided to get her up because if she had fallen asleep eventually, it probably would have thrown off her afternoon nap and we just can't have that. I made a note to myself that she needs to be woken up by no later than 7:10. Incidentally, I was a little tired myself yesterday morning, which is why I let them sleep later, because Calleigh had woken up at about 4:30 looking for her binky (she had like 6 of them in there but somehow they all seem to disappear while she's sleeping) and then she didn't want to go back to sleep. Fortunately I pacified her by turning the hall light back on and turning on her music. Anyway, this morning I decided to forgo the nap again because we were out at the yard sales and I didn't want to come home. Both days she's stayed awake until her afternoon nap and she's been pleasant. I was worried today that she would be lulled to sleep in the car but it didn't happen. So now I'm thinking that maybe we can forgo the morning nap from now on. I know she won't have one tomorrow anyway because of church. We'll see how Sunday goes. This would free up our schedule so that we can do things earlier in the day and than perhaps have an earlier lunch and get them down earlier for naps....although, she's still nursing mid-morning so if we are out and about, I'd still have to squeeze that in somehow.
This evening we went to the Winter Park YMCA and signed Calleigh up for swimming lessons. She'll be going on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of May. The lesson is 30 minutes long and they said there will be no more than 6 kids per class. There are eight lessons but we'll actually be missing one when we're up for Devin's wedding. Hopefully that's not the difference between success and failure! They said I could expect that at the end of the lesson that she'll be able to float and also to get herself to the edge of the pool if she was out in the middle. We asked to see the pool and Duncan and I were both completely surprised to see the pool was outside. I know in my case I was expecting an indoor pool like how it was when I took lessons at the Y when I was a kid (great memories by the way). Of course, that was in Massachusetts so I guess the indoor thing makes more sense. I told Duncan I should have been tipped off when she told me over the phone that they sometimes cancel classes due to weather! Now that I see the pool is outside, I'm really rethinking the 12:15 time slot for the lessons. I can just see Aubree and I sweating buckets as we stand outside in the hot sun watching. There's also a 9:15 lesson but since I don't know what's going to happen with Aubree's nap time, I decided not to do that one. Calleigh put her hand in the pool and seems excited about taking the lessons. So that's good.
In closing, since I mentioned Calleigh's standard prayer in my last post, I'll mention that she put a slightly different twist on it tonight. This evening she said "Thank you for the Science Center and that we love me. Amen." I just love listening to her prayers.
Her new helmet and elbow pads that we got at Walmart yesterday. The pads could be used on either elbows or knees. She picked elbows and of course, she then went outside, fell down (not on her bike) and totally scraped up her knee and leg. Go figure.
