Inch by Inch

Every now and then, Calleigh will get a fascination with my pony tail. She has barrettes that she wears but someone had also given her pony tail holders and these are mixed in with her barrettes. So today she decided that she wanted to have a pony tail like Mommy. Of course, she doesn't have a whole lot of hair so she really has nothing but stubs when you put in a pony tail but the fact that there's actually enough there to form a pony tail makes me feel pretty darn happy since she had a bald spot in the back of her head until about eight months old. At this point, she won't be wearing her pony tails in public - - just around the house. I dream that the next one will have a full head of hair!

Sunday morning, Duncan, Calleigh, and I did an early morning First Watch. The reason being that we were planning to do a tour of the Winter Park Hospital at 1 pm. Unfortunately that never came to fruition because we didn't have anyone to look after Calleigh - - Shannon was working and Ron and Elaine were in a dance competition. Anyway, after breakfast and some housework, we headed out to shop for a few more items for the baby room. We ended up at Michaels to try and find some letters to spell Aubree on the wall like we did with Calleigh. After finding the letters and painstakingly finding just the right paint colors, Duncan put Calleigh on his shoulders and we went to the section that has the double sided tape. As we stood there, Duncan says to me urgently, "There's something wet on my head." I looked over and sure enough, there was Calleigh with a tube of green paint in her hand that had opened and was now oozing onto Duncan's hair and sunglasses. He whipped Calleigh off his head and ran to the bathroom. Poor Calleigh just stood there in bewilderment as she looked at the green paint that was now on her shirt and pants. I ended up just sitting down right there in the middle of Michaels, brought out the wipes to clean up and then whipped off her clothes to put on a new pair. Meanwhile, Duncan had left a perfect trail of green paint all the way to the bathroom that they no doubt were cleaning up for quite some time. I guess one of us should have been paying attention to what we let her play with in the store! And then, as it turned out, as we were walking out, we stumbled across these foam letters that happened to be just the colors we wanted. So that saved Duncan the whole trouble of painting them in the end. Naturally, the story doesn't end there. When we got home, I took the letters out and somehow, the 'A' had never made it home. Ahhhh! I checked the receipt and nope, didn't pay for it either. Apparently I never put it in the basket. Can you say "Baby brain?"

After naptime, we went back to Michaels (a different one) to get the missing 'A' and then we stopped at Pier One where we were finally able to find some pillows for the futon in the hard-to-find green color we were looking for. Sunday evening we watched "Amazing Race" as usual. I'm really enjoying this season - - probably because I missed the last one. I'm still rooting for Tammy and Victor. What can I say? I always have a soft spot for the brother/sister combos. But at least I pretty much like all three teams that are left for once. I say pretty much because I don't care for Luke, the deaf guy. I feel sort of bad saying that since he's deaf and all but if he wants to be treated equally, well, there you go.

Monday morning we went to Monkey Joe's where we met up with Lauren/Caroline and Trish/Grayson. Both Lauren and Trish are pregnant and as you may recall I had said Lauren was due on May 17 (same as Camille). She told me that she actually had it wrong that it's really May 19 which is now the same day as my c-section. She had Caroline about a week early if memory serves me correctly so it will be interesting to see if it happens early again. I always wonder if you have the first one early or late, does that mean subsequent ones will be as well or does that have no baring on it whatsoever? Anyway, she's having the baby at a different hospital so unfortunately, there's no chance of us bumping into each other. As far as Calleigh playing goes, clearly she was much more comfortable jumping around this time than last. It's been at least three or four month, if not more, since we have been there. At one point, I got a little freaked out. There was this one inflatable slide that was the largest in the place. There were about 15 plastic steps to get to the top of the slide and they were at about a 70 degree angle. Calleigh saw one little girl (probably age three or four) climbing up and she decided she wanted to go up too. I didn't think she would make it up more than a few steps so I let her go. But then lo and behold, she made it all the way up to the top. So then I figured she would be too scared to come down (it was probably a good 25 feet down) and how in the world was I going to get her down? Goodness knows I wasn't climbing up there in my condition! But then I got really nervous when, without even hesitating, she went over to the slide, laid down on her stomach and started to come down. I didn't even have time to yell up that she was supposed to come down feet first, sitting down (per the rules). And down she came. She ended up sideways all the way down but she didn't cry or freak out or anything so that was good. Needless to say, when she tried to go back on this a little later, I quickly steered her elsewhere. I think we may be going back to Monkey Joe's tomorrow with Kristine and Jonathan so I'll have to get a picture of it.

Shannon came over at lunch time because I needed to go to the hospital for a meeting. So she ended up putting Calleigh down for her nap. I got home around 3:45. In the evening, Ron and Elaine came over and we had Smokey Bones takeout (for the last time. They're fired!) and we caught up with their weekend activities. They left today for a business trip to California and won't be back until Friday morning.

Today we tentatively planned to go to the new splash playground in Winter Springs with Jonathan and Kristine but we ended up postponing it. Because our regular story time is on hiatus for two weeks, we went to the Winter Park Library for story time instead. Calleigh fit right in and was talking out as she usually does. One of the books was about dogs and Calleigh decides to shout out "All dogs poop." Yes, we have a dog book and one of the pages talks about how all dogs poop and all dogs pee. It seems cute at home but not as much when we're in public. But everyone did laugh!

After story time, we made a quick stop at Publix to pick up a few things. On the quick trip home, I was on 436 waiting to make a u-turn as I talked on my cell phone. Next thing I know, I feel this little hand and hear "Hi Mommy." I look and there is Calleigh standing up right behind the drink holder in the middle of the van. What in the world??? Surely she didn't figure out how to unbuckle herself. Regardless, I quickly sat her down on the floor lest someone see her standing in the van and have me arrested on the spot (I felt a little like Britney Spears). Once I got off 436, it was only about 1/2 mile the rest of the way home on a back road so I didn't bother to stop. Naturally we passed a cop just as we were pulling into our neighborhood but fortunately, she was still seated on the floor. As I thought about it a little more, I realized that I must have been so intent on tying her balloon to her car seat so it wouldn't float away that I forget to actually buckle her in. Doh!

Like I said, baby brain! I forget to mention that last week when I was at the doctor and had to do my pee sample, I realized I had put my pants on backwards when I got dressed that morning. In my defense, it's not like there was a zipper and snap on them but there WERE noticeable pockets on the backside. Good grief. It's one thing to put them on your kid backwards but on your own self? Very sad...I'm making myself sound very pathetic when in reality, it's not like I'm one of those people that's all stressed out about the impending birth or anything. Seriously, I'm not.

I mentioned a few posts ago about Calleigh not sleeping in her sleep sack anymore. I've gone the route of dressing her in a sleeper or two piece with socks and then throwing a blanket in the crib for her to use if she wants. Of course, she doesn't really use it except to play with but I'm happy to report that the whole sleep sack/blanket thing hasn't affected her sleeping. Yay! Duncan snapped this picture of her last night to show one of her common sleep positions - - sleeping with her butt in the air. How that can be comfortable is beyond me.

Yesterday I got a new cookware set in the mail. Last June, I hit 10 years of work at the hospital and as a reward, I was able to pick out a gift from a catalog (they do the rewards in March of the next year, hence the delay). Previously the gift was cash which, of course, I would have preferred, but hey, a gift is a gift so I'm not going to complain about it. And I did need some new cookware. The cookware was for me but Calleigh was the primary beneficiary of the box with all the Styrofoam peanuts. That was a good time! You would be surprised at how long it takes to pick up thousands of peanuts off the floor though.

That's a wrap. I'm off to make a pineapple smoothie and enjoy the last inning and a half of the Sox/Yankees game. Have I mentioned that Calleigh knows how to say "I don't like the Yankees."?

Wouldn't you have pee'd your pants instead of losing the amazing race? Unbelievable! Don't tell me you actually like one of those girls that is still in the race, she is so impatient!

I could not believe that those girls came in last. I was even more appalled that they would actually stop for a potty break. Unbelievable.

The one cheerleader definitely is impatient and a little annoying. Camille can't stand them. I have been a little more open to them (mostly because they're easy on the eyes). HOWEVER, this last episode they were absolutely driving me up a wall. They were totally useless for much of the episode, and just stood there for about 3 hours, unable to locate the right place. They were being so nonchalant about finding the stop. Hello?? I don't care how long you have been looking; get on your horse and keep trying to find the place.

But I must say, the one chick with eating all of the stuff was mighty impressive.
