A Happy Mother's Day

At Duncan's suggestion, we headed to Cocoa Beach for the morning. Other than when we were on a cruise last year, Duncan has never been to the ocean with Calleigh so I thought it was a great idea. And we knew from a few weeks back with Gigi that Calleigh loves the beach and ocean. So off we went this morning at about 8:45. Thankfully we beat the crowd and found a parking spot easily. It has been very hot this week here so it was an ideal day for the beach. I had been anticipating the water to be warmer than it was. I actually thought the water was somewhat numbing it was that cold - - for sure the water was much warmer in Sanibel at the beginning of April. But, the temperature didn't phase Calleigh one bit and she went right in without batting an eyelash. Duncan was awesome - - he was in charge of Calleigh the whole time so that I was able to just sit in my chair and read a book. It was very nice! I did go in the water up to my knees for a few minutes but that was it. We left around noon in order to get back home for nap time. On the way back, we decided to debut the DVD player. Not that she really needs entertainment for an hour trip back home but we were anxious to try it out for the first time and plus, we thought there was a chance she may fall asleep. We had a DVD that I got at the ABC with a bunch of kids singing and she really enjoyed it. As expected, when we went to Duncan's parents this evening, the first thing she said was "Where's the movie?" We explained that it was only for long trips and thankfully she didn't push the issue (although she did ask about it again on the way home).

While Calleigh and I took our naps, Duncan was a busy beaver. I had found a Radio Flyer wagon on Craig's List that he went and picked up. Calleigh has been mentioning getting a wagon every time her birthday is mentioned so now we finally have one. The lady was also selling a shopping cart so Duncan picked that up to for a few dollars. Duncan decided to give her the cart today so when she came downstairs and saw it, she was quite happy. It even has the "front seat" where she can put her baby and then she put her purse on the bottom rung like she sees me do with my bag. There will be pictures soon of this, I'm sure. Duncan also went to Target and got Calleigh a bathing suit with more coverage and a new hat.

As I mentioned, we went to Ron & Elaine's for more swimming and then supper. Their A/C is out (I feel SO sorry for them) but we spent the whole time outside so it wasn't bad. Ron prepared the meal and I brought hotdogs for Calleigh and me. We had dessert at the end to celebrate Mother's Day and we gave Calleigh just a few bites which she took full advantage of as you can see here. It doesn't take much for her to make a mess! Fortunately the sun must have worn her out today so the little bit of sugar didn't mess up her falling asleep tonight.

So, let me try to think of any highlights that I can mention from last week. I'll just do a few bullet points:

  • On Wednesday we didn't do a whole lot. The big event of the day was going through the car wash, a first for Calleigh. She stared out the window the whole time in bewilderment. I'm sure we'll be back there quite frequently. For some reason when you have a new vehicle, you have extra motivation to keep it clean!
  • Shannon came over for a visit later in the day. She and David were going to the golfing range so she borrowed Elaine's golf clubs. But we had a nice visit with her now that her "swine" flu is gone. Ha, we never did prove it was that so don't freak out.
  • Thursday morning we were back at the doctor's office. I gained two pounds in a week so I wasn't too excited about that especially when the doc measured my belly and it was the same as the week before. Hmm, where did the two pounds go? I can only imagine. The other news is that my strep test came back positive. But apparently it's no big deal. I'm already getting antibiotics from the c-section so that should take care of it. I have one more appointment this Thursday and then that's it.
  • Friday we went to a few yard sales. Only two in fact. There weren't a whole lot with baby/toddler/kid stuff this week - - maybe since it's getting so hot, there just aren't as many in general. Fortunately the first one we went to was very successful. I found this great picture for the baby's room for $20. It's huge (insert a "That's what she said" joke here!!) and will take up a good portion of one of the walls and it's just the right colors. So I was very happy with that development.
  • Friday night we went to the cousins for waffle night. It's been forever since we did one of those. Megan was gone for the weekend up to Boston but Shannon, David, and Tiffany were there.
We had a nice Sabbath - - made it through church again! As I mentioned last night, Duncan and I had a very nice evening out last night. Ron & Elaine came over to babysit so that we could go to Jazz Stroll at Leu Gardens. We brought a picnic lunch and met Allen & Tangie, Richard & Catherine, and two other couples that we met for the first time. Thankfully we got tickets ahead of time because there were lots of people who had to be turned away because it was sold out. However, we had a heck of a time trying to figure out how you can "sell out" an event that is in a giant garden that has tons of just open space and clearly had room for thousands more people.
Well, when I saw the line for the bathroom, I had a suspicion that there must be a rule as too how many bathrooms you have to provide for a certain number of people. The line was at least 30 people deep. No way was I waiting in that so I found some nice trees and that was that. It was quite dark so no worries! We had a really relaxing time eating to out heart's content and enjoying the company and music. Please do not be concerned with the wine glass in my hand. I can assure you that it was just some sparkling cider. Hopefully nobody got the wrong idea about the very pregnant lady with a wine glass!

We watched the finale of the Amazing Race tonight and to address some of the comments left on my previous post. YES, without question I would have peed my pants instead of using the bathroom if it meant I might get eliminated from winning $1M. I couldn't believe Jen used the outhouse. Seriously. I'm sure you could change your clothes as soon as you got to the pit stop. Furthermore, I'm going to brag here and say that I am an extremely fast pee-er so even if I had stopped, I probably would have taken me no more than 20 or 30 seconds at most. I'm thinking she even took time to put toilet paper down on the seat. Secondly, yes, one of the cheerleaders did have a few problems with her attitude. I say one because even though the race is over I still don't know which one was Cara and which one was Jaime. Her attitude didn't bother me all that much because most of the time, I was feeling the same frustrations she was. But I did think she was particularly uncaring this evening when the other one had such a hard time with the pig. Anyway, I was quite pleased with the outcome and I was trying to think how many times my team has actually won. I think this might have been only the second time so that was neat.

In closing, here is a picture of Calleigh reading a book to her monkey. She set this all up herself which is what makes it so cute!

You need to put a "SPOILER ALERT" warning in your blog about the "Amazing Race." Some of us have not seen the finale yet!

Also, in some ways, I'm glad to know that Camille is not the only one who tested positive for Strep.

And, lastly, perhaps you should clarify that even if you were not pregnant, the wine glass still would not contain, you know, wine.

You can tell Duncan I love the hat he picked out for Calleigh
