17 Days and Counting

Aubree - 36.5 Weeks
Calleigh - 36.5 Weeks

The big day is 17 days away - - hard to believe! Everyone keeps asking me if I’m ready and the answer is that I’m definitely NOT ready for being up in the middle of the night again. I think what people are really asking is whether I’m ready to get this baby out. But really, I feel great. I actually feel better than I did a few weeks ago. I don’t have any back pain, no swelling, or any other pregnancy symptoms. So I could probably deal with this for a lot longer if I needed to….after all, there’s a huge upside. You don’t have to worry about what you eat or whether your stomach looks too fat. This will be my reality in another few weeks - - having to start losing the baby weight. That’s definitely the worst thing about pregnancy, for sure.

On Wednesday morning I had my doctor’s appointment. Shannon was going to come over and babysit but because she was suffering from a cold, I decided to take a pass on that. Plus, she did just return from Mexico. Not that I thought it was the stupid swine flu or anything but I thought I should be careful, in general, with spreading anything to Calleigh. Calleigh was very well behaved through it all and even entertained the nurses with her chatter while I was in the bathroom to give my urine sample. I had my weigh-in and yay, it was only three pounds in three weeks. I’m now at 30 pounds overall through 36 weeks of pregnancy. I’m pretty confident that I’ll come in at less than the 40 pounds with Calleigh. The other thing that was interesting was that when the doctor measured my belly (they measure from the top of your uterus to the bottom, not around your belly) it came in at 35 centimeters. Generally, you should measure plus or minus two as compared to the weeks pregnant you are. So 36 weeks would equal 36 centimeters. With Calleigh, if I remember correctly, I was usually one or two centimeters higher than my weeks. But this time, I measured almost a centimeter below the weeks. So I do think this time I’m a little smaller. It will be interesting to see how big the baby is. I’ve heard that women’s successive babies get bigger. Calleigh was 7 pounds, 15 ounces. However, she was 6 days late whereas Aubree will be 6 days early.

Wednesday afternoon our crib and dresser arrived. Calleigh was excited to see it when she woke up from her nap. She immediately wanted to jump around in Baby Aubree’s crib. Of course, I have to keep a close eye on her because the mattress is raised to the top level. We got our curtains in the mail and then picked up a few other things at Target on Friday afternoon, including a shelf with bins, so now the room is really coming together. We’re still on the hunt for the just the right pillows for our futon that will help match it to the rest of the non-orange themed decor. And obviously we need some stuff for the walls as they are completely bare. I put the diapers in the basket next to the changing table and I’m at a complete loss as to how TINY they are. Boy, how quickly you forget that they’re that small. Speaking of size, one thing I learned from Calleigh as a newborn is that there is a difference in clothing size between newborn (NB) and 0 – 3 months. I had brought Calleigh this really cute pink elephant onesie to wear home from the hospital. It was size 0 – 3 months and I didn’t think anything of it. Of course, it turned out to be WAY too big for her. So now I know better.

Thursday morning we headed to the splash playground in Winter Springs to meet Kristine and Jonathan. Jonathan has been sick for the last week so we hadn’t seen them in awhile. Calleigh is obviously getting much more comfortable with the set up there. There’s a big circle of water in the middle that she’s been pretty timid to go into the first two times that she was there but this time, she kept running through it and was very proud of herself. Since it was Jonathan’s first time there, he was a little timid of the fountains in general but he started coming around.
Calleigh tried to take his hand a couple of times to take him to the middle but he wasn’t up for it. After the fountains, the kids had a snack and then we spent some time throwing bread to the fish and playing in the regular playground. It was a fun morning, for sure.

Friday morning we did our yard sales. We only a have a few weeks left of this, I'm sure, for quite some time. It's getting pretty hot out there even in the mornings. The temps are now up in the mid 80's so things are getting sweaty. We only found a couple of things this week - - mainly because several of the places had drastically overpriced their clothes. After you go to a few dozen yard sales, you get a good feel for what prices should be and I can tell that $2 for a onesie, is way too much. That should be about $0.50 at the most. I wouldn't even be looking at onesies if I wasn't having a little problem with some of Calleigh's old clothes. When I took out the NB and 0 - 3 month clothes, I noticed that many of them have yellow staining, mostly around the collar and chest area. I'm not sure if this is because the bins had been stored in our garage or what. I'm in the process of washing them right now and I'm hoping that Shout will take care of it.

Because we missed our Walmart grocery shopping on Thursday morning, we hit it up after our yard sales. One of the things that Calleigh looks forward to is getting yellow smiley face stickers from the employee that stands at the front of the store (you know, the one that's making sure you don't steal anything or something like that...). The ladies (and sometime gentlemen) are always very nice and when Calleigh asks for one for her other hand, they always oblige. In fact, the last time, the lady even gave her a third sticker for her face. Well, the lady this time refused to give her a sticker for her other hand even when Calleigh stuck her hand out and asked for another one. Of course, Calleigh had a semi fit about not getting another one but the lady wouldn't budge so I told Calleigh that this lady only gives one even though all the rest give two. On the one hand, I don't want Calleigh to think that she has to have her way every time but on the other hand, what's the deal??? It's a stinking sticker and everyone else gives two so that's what she's accustomed to having. We'll have to avoid this particular lady from now on.

Last evening Ron and Elaine came over for a visit. They got back from their trip up north on Thursday evening. So we had a good time catching up and hearing what Duncan's siblings are up to and how Calleigh's boys cousins are doing. It sounds like Derek and Tyler will be coming for a visit in July so that should be a lot of fun. They were last here in August but Calleigh's remembers them by looking at their pictures.

After church today we went over Aunt Wanda's for lunch. She was having a bunch of family over including Uncle Dick, Aunt Shirley and Uncle Clarence, Aunt Mary, Boo and Jeff, and their three boys, Orion, Rain, and Lake. We hadn't seen the boys in a long time so it was good to see them all. Aunt Shirley gave Calleigh a little stroller and baby doll and Calleigh took right to it. Aunt Shirley named the doll Molly and it seems a very fitting name. Calleigh has insisted on Molly being in the crib with her for her nap and bedtime tonight. Anyway, the food was delicious for lunch (there was mac and cheese so Calleigh was in heaven!) and although we left pretty much right after we were finished to get home for naptime, it was nice to catch up with the family.

One interesting thing this week is Calleigh figuring out that Duncan and I have other names. I had noticed a few times that she has said "Cor" but I wasn't sure if she was saying that as my nickname or what. In one of her books, they talk about "Mother" and "Father" so I spent a minute explaining to Calleigh that it was another name for Mommy and that she could call me "Mommy", "Mom", "Mother", or "Mama." To which she didn't miss a beat and said "Or Corey." I was so surprised! This afternoon she went up to Duncan and asked him "What's your name?" We knew what she meant so Duncan told her and she repeated it a few times but I think she's happy with going back to "Mommy" and "Daddy."

A few other tidbits...
  • I went out for fondue with my friend Nicole on Tuesday night. It's been awhile since I've out with a friend so it was very enjoyable especially since she treated!
  • I had been doing a lot of game planning during the early part of the week because Accounting was going to have an activity day on Thursday. I was in charge of the games and I had come up with about five or six. However, on Thursday morning, my boss Danny, told us that his father, age 59, didn't wake up from his sleep the night before so obviously things were cancelled. It's terribly sad. Please keep him in your prayers. Fifty nine really isn't very old as anyone with parents around that age can attest to.
  • Can you believe this Celtics/Bulls series? I didn't think I would watch any of the games because without Garnett, I can't imagine the Celtics have much chance of going anywhere. But with all of these overtime games, it's gotten pretty exciting. I'm watching the last two minutes of regulation in Game 7, right now...

I think that's it for this update. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
