What's Next?

Doesn't it figure that after you go out and make a large purchase (new minivan), some other big expense comes up?? In this case, our refrigerator. I noticed late Sabbath afternoon that it didn't seem to be very cold. I like my milk ice cold and it definitely wasn't. It also figures that it was the weekend so I knew nothing would be done until Monday (at least). So Duncan ran over to his parents to borrow their mini fridge and a cooler and along with our two coolers, we emptied out our fridge contents. It's kind of a pain having to eat out of coolers but you do what you have to do. We found what we hoped to be a reputable company and they sent out a repairman on Monday afternoon. Naturally, Duncan was at work which meant I was home alone (except for a sleeping Calleigh). This is one thing that I absolutely hate - - being alone with a stranger in my home. I have read far too many true crime books to be comfortable with this set up but my hand was forced in this situation. Anyway, all went pretty well and $176 later, our fridge is now fixed. It turns out there was something wrong with the heater (who knew a fridge had one??) which caused ice to form on the back of the freezer which prevented the fridge from getting cold...or something like that. Now hopefully we won't have any other things break around here!

We had an uneventful Sabbath which included Shannon, David, and Yully coming over for lunch. On Saturday night, Duncan and I rented James Bond's Quantum of Solace from Red Box and ate some warm parfaits (meant to be cold ones but with the fridge situation..) The movie was okay.

On Sunday we went to Target to look for some closet organizers for the baby room and then met Ron & Elaine at Bob Evans for brunch. We had previously fired them after a poor experience the last time but Elaine was in a mood for the crepes so we went for it. Bob Evans itself was fine but Calleigh was a real pain. It's almost becoming more trouble than it's worth to go out to eat with her. She won't sit still. She doesn't want to sit in a highchair so we tried the booster and than you can't keep her in that because there aren't any straps. Apparently I need to bring more entertainment supplies or something.

Sunday evening we went to Ron and Elaine's for supper. They are leaving tomorrow for a week to go to San Diego for a conference so we got all of our instructions for cat/house/plant upkeep in their absence. After supper, we went out to the golf course and Calleigh was able to run free while Duncan did some chipping. Calleigh had her little golf club too but she spent most of the time throwing her golf ball - - apparently not quite getting the concept of hitting it with the club.

Yesterday morning Calleigh and I headed to Winter Park Hospital so I could pre-register. We're going to go back later and take a tour (which they have on a monthly basis). We had Calleigh at the Orlando campus so the whole Winter Park thing is new for us. The good thing about it is that it's closer to home and nicer! It only took a minute to fill out the paperwork and as Calleigh sat there in her stroller I heard her suddenly say in a very loud voice, "Oh, there's Jesus!" I looked around and she was pointing to a statue of Jesus that was in the lobby. So we strolled over for her to get a closer look and she started going on and on about his feet. The problem was that there were bushes at the bottom of the statue and she couldn't see his feet and it really seemed to bother her. So I had to clear away the bushes for her to make sure they were there. Much better. This picture is blurry but you can see what I'm talking about.

This morning we were going to meet Jonathan and Kristine at the playground but they had some things come up so we revised our plans. Our regular story time isn't in session this week so we went to the Orange County library instead. The lady who taught it was dressed up as Mother Goose and Calleigh was quite taken aback by it all and I thought for a minute it wasn't going to work out but she settled in. We spent a little time in the library looking at books, particularly ones with shapes in which is her big thing right now. And for the first time she saw a stop sign and identified it as an octagon so I was pretty excited!

Afterwards, I stopped in at the AAA office which I just happened to notice next door. My mom and I are planning to go to Sea World on Thursday and I wanted to see if they had any good deals but there weren't any on the pay-for-a-day and go back for a year deal. On the walk there from the library, Calleigh got running and had a big fall. She came pretty close to her face hitting into the sidewalk but fortunately she just missed it. She sat on my lap for a few seconds to recover but then insisted on just sitting on this little ramp by herself with her nuby. From there, we stopped at Michaels where I was determined to find some crafts or anything that I could use to entertain her at church. I got some Noah stickers, markers (that only color on the specific coloring book), and some colored paper. Sure, the stuff is for 3+ which I usually avoid but I'm getting desperate and I figure I'll be closely watching her. So we'll see if we can get through church this week. We've come so close a couple of times!

This afternoon and evening it's been raining and I think it may be getting to that time of year here in Florida. Fortunately we were still able to get our walk in after Calleigh's nap. But after supper it was raining again and I took her outside to run around in it. She's had a real interest in umbrellas the last few days so I knew it would strike her fancy to be able to use it. Sure enough, she asked if she could "put it on her shoulder" and out we went. Yes, we went through all of the puddles. The best part of course!

As I alluded to earlier, my mother is getting here tomorrow night. We pick her up at 7:20. Calleigh will probably be up a little bit late but it's worth it! I've been talking to her about Gigi coming and about how we're going to go swimming with Gigi (when we go to Sanibel) and she keeps saying "Splash Gigi?" So watch out Mom - - she's out go get you!!

Finally, happy 32nd birthday to my dear brother Rick! Wish we were celebrating it with you in person. Love you! Not that he reads this blog as far as I know...
