Costco Wouldn't Take My Money

I'm tired - - it's been one of those days - - but I just wanted to make this short post because I swore I would after what happened this morning. Short pause while I watch Anoop sing on AI. Okay, I'm back. So today is Ron's 60th birthday and for a gift, we wanted to get him a gift card to Costco to use to convert camcorder tapes to DVD's (he has been taping stuff with his Dad). I go to Costco and go to customer service and say I want to purchase a gift card. Only if you're a member says the lady. I say I'm not a member but I would like to purchas a gift card to give to a member. And she says I'm sorry but you can't. So I said "Let me get this straight. I want to give you $50 to purchase a gift card but you're saying you won't take my money? I guess you've lost $50." I mean, can you believe this? In this economy especially, it's unbelievable. I understand the whole membership thing - - pay the $50 annual fee so you can get discounted merchandise (or alleged discounted merchandise since, as I've mentioned before, the diapers are NOT discounted compared to Walmart). But I literally wanted to pay $50 so that someone else could buy something for $50. Just ridiculous. I may have to send this in to the Consumerist.

Okay, I'm off to eat a piece of cheesecake.

Just foolishness. As you say, in this economy no wonder some businesses are going out of business! Why is common sense so uncommon!!!
