Brown Teeth

Monday morning Calleigh had a dentist visit for pictures and a cleaning.  Calleigh has usually been pretty good about brushing her teeth.  Aubree, on the other hand, is a nightmare.  She cries, wiggles, screams, etc. whenever I start brushing.  It's as if I'm torturing her.  I try reasoning with her telling her that her teeth will get ugly and rotten if she doesn't brush them.  They'll turn yellow or brown and won't look good anymore.  Of course, reasoning with a 2-year old is not always very successful and typically, my remarks to her are completely ignored and she continues to carry on.   But apparently she is listening to me.  So we're on the way to the dentist and Calleigh says to Aubree that next time, she can get her teeth cleaned too.  I say "Well, we'll probably wait until Aubree is three before she goes to get her teeth cleaned."  And Aubree says, "Actually (that is one of her favorite words), I'm going to have brown teeth."  I think this was her way of saying no thanks to the dentist visit. Calleigh, however, was happy to follow the hygienist back, get a cleaning, and get a new toothbrush.  No cavities once again so happy times.

Sunday morning, after our First Watch outing, I left the girls in Duncan's care while Brady and I traipsed off to a baby shower for my friend Kelli.  She's having a boy in early August.  It was a very nice time...I guess any time is when you can have uninterrupted adult conversations!  Brady was passed around from person to person and was a total peach.

During this time, Duncan took the girls to his parents (surprise, surprise) but first made a stop at Verizon to get me set up with a new smartphone.  I'm still not sure how I feel about it.  Anyway, Duncan uncovered that the iPhone 5 will be coming in September and I decided I would hold out for that.  But then, in the meantime, we also discovered that Verizon is moving away from the $30 unlimited data plan to a tiered plan with much higher rates (which start at $30 and go all the way to $80).  If you get the unlimited plan before July 7, when the change goes into effect, then you're grandfathered in.  I figured it would be wise to get in before July 7 but I didn't want to buy a new phone while waiting for the iPhone.  Fortunately, Ron had an old (like two years old) Droid he wasn't using so problem solved.  I have been strongly against paying $30 for data since I just don't think I'm going to use it that much but I'm finally giving in.  As it turns out, we got a nice break when Duncan went in there.  Unbeknownst to us, Florida Hospital employees get a 22% (not 20% or 25% mind you) discount on phone plans.  So yes, we've been overpaying for years.  Too bad it wasn't retroactive.  But the nice thing at least is that it's now $24 for the plan instead of $30 and my regular plan is cheaper too.  I'm on day four of the new phone and I'm just not sure about it.  For starters, it keeps hanging up randomly during a phone call.  It's a touch screen and when it's against your ear, the screen is supposed to be blank so you can't accidentally touch it with your face or whatever and press a button.  Apparently I must have a weird face or something because the screen keeps turning back on and I guess I'm hitting the end button.  Quite annoying.  Secondly, the screen doesn't stay on when you aren't using it so if you want to see what time it is, which is what I use my phone for, you have to press a button to light the phone up.  A small thing but nonetheless, also annoying.  Thirdly, it's just not that comfortable to talk on.  My military phone is bigger and I can rest if comfortably on my shoulder while talking.  No such luck with this one.  I'm hoping maybe I can get a big case for it.  Finally, you can't help but want to check it every time it alerts you to a new email, message, etc.  I think this is going to be distracting me from the kids or whatever I'm doing which I don't like.  I think simple is sometimes just better.  So we'll see.

Sunday evening we had a nice dinner out at Cafe Passitano's with Cory and Amanda Reeves who are in town for a conference.  They had left their kids with Cory's parents.  We hadn't seen them since October so it was so nice to catch up with them.  Of course, seeing them just made us sad that they don't live around here any more.  We're vowing that we're going to get up to northern Georgia to visit them in the not so distant furture...we hope.  The Isidro's came too so it was a bit of a zoo with all the kids but a good time none the less.

The girls hadn't seen Cory since last October but it didn't phase them in the least.
It was if they were best pals.

Yesterday we ventured to Waterford Lakes to hit up the Carter's store.  We had a few things we needed to return there (namely some preemie stuff that we never ended up needing).  When all was said and done, I had about $50 to spend but I quickly came to the realization that shopping just wasn't going to happen.  Brady woke up and started crying and the girls were running free willie all over the place since they weren't in a stroller.  Actually, Aubree was running all over the place and Calleigh was freaking out that she wasn't staying with me.  We left there and I got the idea to stop and play at the playground in a McDonald's.  Since it's so darn hot out, it just isn't that conducive to an actual real playground.  The playground is all these tunnels you climb up into and and then eventually slide down this enclosed slide.  Aubree was apprehensive at first but then finally climbed up only to get scared once she was up in the top.  I was worried for a minute that I was going to have to somehow climb up in there after her but fortunately Calleigh was able to rescue her and all was well.  The girls were not happy to leave and insisted that we would have to go back to "Old McDonald's" to play there again soon.  Brady slept through all this activity.

This morning we were off to the splash playground in Winter Springs.  Wouldn't you know that literally the minute the girls got into the fountains, the heavens opened up and started pouring.  We made a beeline for the covered picnic area.  I then noticed that the playground area was covered by one of those giant tarp like coverings so I said they could go over and play there.  Meanwhile, I had to start feeding Brady.  But then, I realized that Aubree was climbing up this steep ladder so off I went to follow her around.  I felt kind of funny walking through the pouring rain with a baby nursing under my hooter hider but so is life with three kids.  The rain didn't last long so back we went to the fountains and the girls had so much fun.  Much different from the time we were there at the beginning of the season when Aubree wanted to leave after two minutes.  This time she was sticking her face right in the fountain.

Yesterday Duncan had to take Dewey to the vet.  He has these lesions on his belly that start randomly bleeding.  They had tested them before and they aren't cancerous but they sure are a real pain to deal with because of the blood.  We've not wanted to do anything about them because we haven't wanted to fork over the money it will take to remove them but we finally decided we had no other option.  I can't stand finding the blood on stuff and sometimes it's hard to stop the bleeding.  The vet put Dewey on antibiotics because he said it was possible it could have gotten infected with MRSA.  He'll have the surgery a week from tomorrow.  The vet wrapped him all up with gauze and tape to stop the bleeding.  But yesterday when the girls were having lunch, I noticed that it was all leaking.  This was also at the same time I was feeding Brady so I was like "Ahhhh!  What takes priority here??"  I was envisioning Dewey leaking blood all over my house but on the other hand, poor little Brady was trying to get in a decent meal.  Needless to say, he took a break.

Not too much new to report on the Brady front as we hit the three week mark.  Last night he did go a four hour stretch between meals and I pray that continues.  The spit up has gotten better but on the other hand, the pee spraying every where has gotten worse so pick your poison.  Apparently I must say the same phrase each time I change him because as I frantically threw something over the "spout" as it started going off, Aubree, in her sing song voice, repeated my phrase, "Here comes the pee."

I think that's a wrap.  Time to get some zzzz's before the little one needs to eat again.

OK, I'm getting really caught up!! I know some things that you had to return at Carters!!!!! By the way, I don't have a smartphone but a touchscreen phone and I'm always touching it with my face... But I discovered a lock button that you can press when on the phone and it disables the touchscreen. Just wondering if you have that!
