9 Months

Today Aubree turned 9 months.  Where has the time gone?  Hard to believe that in three months I will have two toddlers.  We go to the pediatrician on Monday (couldn't go today since it's yard sale day!) so I'll have her stats to share then although, as I've mentioned, I'm sure she will be coming in smaller than Calleigh at this same age.  And in case you are wondering why she always has a Boppy behind her when she's sitting down...it's not because she keeps falling over because she's unstable.  It's because Calleigh often knocks her over when she's hugging and kissing her or whatever rough play it is that she does.  So we keep it there as protection from the inevitable fall.

Aubree's food repertoire keeps expanding by the day.  I think it's mostly because I'm lazy and if I can get her to eat real food, it saves me the hassle of having to spoon feed her baby food.  The past few days she's eaten for the first time, blueberries, corn, Fri Chik, and Vegelinks.  All have been received very positively.  Hopefully she'll be a very hearty eater like her sister.  Speaking of her sister, Calleigh constantly tries to move Aubree's highchair next to her chair so that she can scarf any food off Aubree's tray that is of interest to her.  Of course, the fruit is of particular interest.  I tell Calleigh not to take anything of Aubree's and Calleigh will say, "No, no, I have my own."  And then a few seconds later there's Calleigh's hand removing a mandarin orange off Aubree's tray.  I ask her about it and she says "Aubree gave it to me."  Umm, yeah.

Calleigh had a fun week which started off with Uncle Ricky still being around on Sunday and Monday.  Tuesday was our usual story time.  Which reminds me...Aubree is clearly starting to have a memory of things. When we were at story time a few weeks ago, the teacher started making loud and unexpected animal sounds which scared Aubree.  She started to cry and I had to pull out an emergency binky.  So fast forward two weeks (this past Tuesday) and we're back at our same story time.  Aubree is happy as a lark, sitting in the front row of kids.  As soon as the teacher sits down and starts talking, Aubree starts to cry.  I quickly realized that she remembered being scared from the loud noises before.  We'll see if she has any memory of the doctor's office on Monday when we go.  I can't remember what age it was that Calleigh started crying every time.

So I thought I would share a few of Calleigh questions/comments from this week.  They are always a fun time.

  • "Look Mommy, Dewey is bouncing on Marlee."  This was when she noticed Dewey doing, ah, compromising things to Marlee.  Yes, I think we'll just call it "bouncing."  Sounds good to me.
  • "It's okay, it's okay.  Grandma can just get a new Suzie."  This was in response to my explaining, for probably the dozenth time, that Suzie died and isn't around any more.  Ron & Elaine had to be put their beloved cat to sleep unexpectedly (not that expectedly is any better) last week and obviously it's a challenge explaining it to a 2-year old.
  • "Will Abby Cadabby be in heaven?"  This is a tough one.  All the other heaven questions have been much easier to answer...Will there be fruit in heaven? (yes, as much as you can possibly eat), Will Jesus read me a story? (yes, you can sit on his lap.  He would love that), Will Dewey and Marlee have wings? (well, I imagine they would need wings to fly to heaven and I do assume they'll be there despite one of them peeing on my brand new duvet a few days ago so I feel pretty confident saying yes on that one).  But a Sesame Street character being in heaven?  I don't want to lie but I don't want her to be sad over it so what do you say?  I think I may have just changed the subject.
  • "Swallow first."  Those were her instructions to me when I started telling her a story during breakfast, at her request, but I still had some English muffin in my mouth.  At least she has some good manners.
This morning we were back in business with our yard sales much to my delight.  Calleigh was having one of her little fits about what she had to wear or rather what she couldn't wear (no one will be happier than Calleigh when the weather gets warmer and she can wear her "spin" skirts outside).  To distract her, I asked her what she was looking for at the yard sales.  She said "Snakes.  But not real ones."  Well, that was a relief. We looked and looked but never did find any pretend snakes but there's always next week.  Elaine found a cute table and chairs for the girls for her house so it was a success despite the snake shortage.  Meanwhile, I had money burning a hole in my pocket but only spent fifty cents.

Well, that's a wrap.  Have a happy Sabbath and a great week.

The gang at First Watch on Sunday morning...as usual.

Calleigh likes have Daddy tell stories under the blanket.

Calleigh asked me to have her picture taken with the Indian.  As someone who does not want to be named would say, "Is that with a feather or a dot?" The Indian he means, in case you're slow or just tired.
