Sunday morning I was helping him get dressed and he had all sorts of things to say...
Me: "Brady! Today is your soccer debut!"
Brady: "I AM going to play. And if I change my mind, I'm going to change it back."
Me: "You need to listen to your coach and do what he says."
Brady: "I hope he speaks English!"
The coach did indeed speak English and Brady did, in fact, do as he was told. They do a lot of warm up exercises and ball handling techniques and then they get to the game. Considering it was his first game - - ever - - we thought he did really well. He went after the ball hard and had a couple of times when he had the ball and people were chasing him down.
Afterwards, he was quite red (it's still like 90 degrees here now!) and was sprawled out in a chair trying to recuperate. I helped him take off his shoes as we would be there for awhile while Calleigh and Aubree did their session (the 4- to 6-year olds went first and then the 7- to 9-year olds).
Me: "Brady, you did so great! I can't wait to watch you play again."
Brady: "Do you think I could skip one of the weeks?"
Come on! I know he had fun but he's already looking to take a break.
We did watch the girls play too in case anyone is wondering if we completely ignored them now that Brady is playing!
This week we had the pleasure of watching two Patriots games since they played Sunday afternoon and then again Thursday. Calleigh watched all of both games with me and is now convinced the Patriots will be winning the SuperBowl. Brady watched parts of both games and after playing a lot of catch and throw of his football with Duncan, he had this to say..
Brady: "I know what I'm going to be when I grow up."
Me: "What?"
Brady: "A football player. But I"m NOT going to be on the Patriots because they already have a Brady."
Me: "Well, you know Tom Brady will be old and won't be playing anymore by the time you get old enough."
Brady (completely perplexed): "WHAT??? Okay, I guess I will be on the Patriots then. I'll be Tom Brady since he'll be gone."
I mean, I **think** he'll be retired but maybe Tom will be 60 and still playing. Who knows!
It's so weird seeing somebody else playing QB for the Pats
The Patriots did do something for the first time though which I thought was pretty neat. The first black starting QB ever in their history!
Colby is very inspired watching Brady play football so he had to get in on the action too.
This week we've been studying the Egyptians pyramids and mummies which prompted some very interesting discussions on how just exactly the pharaohs were mummified. We were also inspired to make some pyramids out of sugar cubes which I finally had to throw away after a few days because the kids kept walking and by and licking the pyramids.
I'm not sure that there were Native Americans around in Ancient Egypt but they made their appearance at the sugar cube pyramids nonetheless.
Using shaving cream to practice spelling for the girls, Brady his letters, and Colby just for fun. I always hate the mess afterwards but the kids love it.
Since we are studying mummies and how they are preserved, we are doing a science experiment by burying these items in dirt for a week and seeing what happens to them.
Calleigh digging the hole to bury them.
We are also doing an experiment to see what happens to bread, toast, and bread with antiseptic ointment on it after a week.
Tomorrow we are celebrating Yom Kippur for school. Because you fast on Yom Kippur, the "feast" is celebrated the evening before which we did tonight. Yom Kippur is a "Day of Atonement" in which you confess your sins to God so that you can be have at-one-ment with him. My friend Amy, who celebrates the feasts, says that the fasting also includes fasting from drink, not just food. However, Duncan and I aren't quite willing to make that kind of commitment, at least not at this point, so we will just be doing the food fast. It started at sunset tonight and will go until sunset tomorrow. This will be the first time I have ever fasted so we shall see how it goes. I asked Aubree if she would be willing to even just skip one meal and she was completely aghast so I took that as a "no."
Dad said a blessing over each of the kids.
Fortunately they didn't giggle as much this time as they did when we did it before.
Duncan got the new iPhone7 which takes pictures underwater. This also means I now inherited his iPhone6 Plus (I only had the 6). So far after two days, I'm liking the bigger size.
Colby in Sabbath School building a house for Elisha.
The Isidro kids came over and Brae helped build another sugar pyramid.
Yup! It's happening. Only three months and a day until Christmas!!
The news came out in the morning about Brad and Angelina's divorce and then later in the day, I saw this at the grocery store. So I guess sometimes the "tabloids" are actually correct!
Brady drawing himself during Adventurers.
