Weekly Update

This was a rather "boring" week so I have no provocative title for it.  One of the primary factors for this is that it's my busy time at work.  This is par for the course in January with year end and audit.  Most of my evenings, after the kids are in bed, have been spent working.  Kind of a drag especially when the kids run out of underwear because you haven't done laundry.  Last night I had a little free time and I actually got to some clothes that we had brought back from Christmas.  They were stained and I just hadn't gotten to putting stain remover on them yet...three weeks later.  So yeah, things have been busy.

Last Sabbath was a typical day with church, lunch, and a nap for me afterwards.  Saturday night I was working but I did have some football to keep me company.  Peyton Manning losing a playoff game is right up there with the Patriots winning one so it was a good night on that front, although, of course I felt bad for Allen since it's his team.

Sunday morning was back to work for me again so Duncan was on kiddie duty.  He took them on an outing to Lowe's to get wood to make a headboard for our guest room.  He sent me a text some time later that said "God has sent these children to test me."  Yes, shopping with three of them can be quite trying at times especially since Brady was up to his usual binky tricks.  Glad I'm not the only one.

Typically any time we watch a Patriots game, no matter what time of day it's on, we record it so we can watch it once the kids are in bed.  That way we can actually enjoy it in peace and quiet.  The Patriots were playing their playoff game against the Texans at 4:30 and I just didn't think it would be possible to wait until 8:30 to watch it so we decided that we would watch at about 5:30 (delayed enough so we could skip all the commercials).  I started talking up the game with the kids which did not go overly well with Calleigh.  Dating back to the last few weeks, she has insisted that she is a Chicago Bears fan, thanks to one Blake Bergherm.  Remember Braelyn's little offhanded comment about liking the color green and now Calleigh hates any girl color?  Well, all it took was some comment from Blake about loving the Bears and now Calleigh has declared it to be her favorite team too.  Even though I keep telling her that the Bears stink and they aren't in the playoffs, it doesn't matter.

So, here we are about an hour before we start watching the game and I decide we need to make a run down to the playground so they can get a little exercise.  We arrive and I notice a boy about Calleigh's age wearing a Seattle Seahawks jersey (who had just lost in agonizing fashion to the Falcons).  As her usual, Calleigh is drawn to boys and she immediately starts chatting him up.  He's talking to himself about touchdowns and other football stuff.  What follows is then a football conversation in which Calleigh is not really equipped to participate in:

Calleigh: "What is your favorite team?"
Boy: "The Seattle Seahawks"
Calleigh:  "Mine is the Chicago Bears."
Boy: "Who is your favorite player?  Don't tell me it's Jay Cutler."
Calleigh:  "Uhhh...." (I did tell her at some point that Jay Cutler was the QB but she obviously forgot.)  Well, I like the Seahawks too but I haven't told my mom and dad because they would probably be mad.  They like the Patriots."  What she fails to mention is that she has never heard of the Seattle Seahawks, I'm sure, until this very conversation.

We get home and start watching the game and I'm teaching them how to do the signal for touchdown and Aubree and Brady are having a grand old time but there's Calleigh yelling "Go Bears!!"  Duncan finally sternly told her to stop because we didn't want to be around her if she was going to be like that.  That quieted her down for a bit but she's still been talking about the Bears this week.  I finally decided I needed to come at this from another angle.  I've invited Lisa Deininger over to watch the game on Sunday evening and I'm hoping that Calleigh's Lisa infatuation will be in full swing and when she sees Lisa in her Patriots regalia, it will nip the Bears thing in the bud.

As I said, this week has been rather quiet.  Tuesday we did go to Chapin Station playground for a playdate with Jenny Davis and her daughter Lexi.  The weather was unbelievably warm... almost too warm in the sun.  It's crazy how the weather has been in the 80's.  I had stored away Brady's shorts in November but I've had to bring them out again.  Of course, that all changed yesterday afternoon when the temps took a nose dive and today we've been in jeans and sweaters.  It's not entirely unwelcome just from the mere fact of being able to wear other things from your wardrobe.

Wednesday we made a trip to Bed, Bath, & Beyond to try and find some bedding for the girls.  I've come to the conclusion that about 95% of the time I'm in stores looking for something specific for the house, I don't find it.  The only thing I usually find is frustration because the kids will start acting up and I think "What am I doing here?"  This time was no different.  At least I did get a drawer organizer for Aubree's underwear/sock drawer (although there wasn't much to organize in it due to my lack of laundry processing) so it wasn't a wasted trip.  And yes, when I'm reporting on my blog that I got a drawer organizer, it means it was a slow week.

This afternoon we trekked over to the Mall at Millenia to hit up Pottery Barn Kids.  I had looked at their bedding on-line and felt pretty positive about finding something there.  Thankfully we did although Calleigh was almost a real pill about it because she didn't want anything that had any bit of pink on it.  Duncan says to me in disgust, "When is this going to end?"  Hopefully soon, hopefully soon.  Fortunately we persuaded her that there was much more green then pink and she gave in.  We got them each a quilt which I'll have to take pictures of once we have the sheets and all that.

I suppose the one "exciting" thing of the week is that we lost our baby monitor.  And when I say "we" I really mean Brady since I"m sure that's who put it somewhere.  It disappeared on Sunday morning and has not been seen from since.  This happened to us once a few years ago and I immediately looked under our bed where we had found it that time but no such luck.  We've looked in the kitchen cabinets, dresser drawers, the trash, in the closet, you name it.  I'm certain that he unplugged it from beside my bed so our search has concentrated on our bedroom and bathroom but we've looked all over the house.  The sad thing is that you can't just buy the monitor, you have to buy the whole set and it's rather pricey.  In the meantime, since I didn't want to buy something hoping it would turn up, I was forced to sleep in the guest room.  We're too far away from Brady's room for me to feel comfortable going without the monitor (especially since he's been having sleep issues lately).  I guess you could say it was good timing on buying the guest bed.  I slept in it for two nights and although it was pretty good, by the third night I told Duncan we were going to have to do something.  He went to Walmart and got a $17 non-video monitor which has worked fine.  But it's still bugging the heck out of me that we can't find that monitor.  I even showed Brady a picture of it on-line hoping it would jog his memory but nothing.  I pray this will not go down like my camera that I lost at my parent's house that was never found.  Seriously, that one still bugs me three years later.  When I get to heaven I think my first question will be "What happened with JonBenet Ramsey?" and then my second will be "What happened to my camera?"

Tuesday afternoon all three kids were sleeping.  I was like "What the heck happened here?"  And then I immediately ran back downstairs and with a huge smile on my face, sat down on the couch with a nice cup of tea.  Sure, I was working but all was quiet.  Bliss!
